The dreaded after Christmas sadness.

A Case Of The Post-Christmas Blues

Christmas season is the most exciting time of the whole year. Now that the big day is over, you're left feeling less than cheery. You have a case of the Post-Christmas Blues. You have spent the last month (maybe more if you're a Christmas fanatic) preparing for the big day. You stressed about it, worried about it, but loved every second of it. The falling snow meant it was Christmastime. All the décor was up. You bought presents for the people who were dearest to you. There was cheery Christmas music playing at every turn. You looked forward to seeing family and having a great day. Now it's all gone. It leaves you feeling pretty empty inside.

Now, the Christmas tree in your living room is just a reminder of all the work you have to do. It's a reminder of all the gifts to put away. It reminds you of the décor that didn't seem over the top at all, that now covers your house. You note that it needs to be put away. The very tree that reminds you of all of this, is the final piece you have to undecorate and dispose of. The actual process of undecorating is a sad one. You remember playing "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree", as you hung your stockings by the fire. You danced around the house while you put up your Christmas lights, and you had a blast doing it. Now, as you silently take down all the décor, you don't feel that same cheer. Instead you feel sadness and stress about all the other work you need to get done. Now, the house just feels empty.

You're just feeling downright blue. Three hundred and sixty-four days until next years Christmas means there's a lot of time to pass. You just want to go back to the hustle and bustle of the holidays. You aren't exactly sure what to do now. Yes, New Year's Eve is coming up, but it simply isn't the same. The holiday feel is gone, plus bringing in the New Year just sounds like a whole bunch of stress. The cold breeze outside doesn't feel filled with magic and wonder. It's just plain cold. It's like having a Christmas Hangover.

After a few days off of school and work, you aren't looking forward to going back. You enjoyed the time off: shopping, watching movies, drinking hot cocoa and doing wintery activities. Now, you have to go back to sitting in a desk, staring outside at the snow and trying to pass the time. Having no worries for a couple days was a wonderful feeling. Knowing that stress is about to come back is a bummer.

If you feel this way, you probably have a case of the Post-Christmas Blues. This is definitely not a disorder or disease, but it sure leaves you feeling sad. For those of us with it, the weeks after Christmas are a terribly low time. Just try to remember that the next holiday season starts in 10 months! May the blues pass you by quickly and easily this year.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
