My favorite move is “Frozen”. Is it too weird that it is “Frozen” instead of “The Notebook” or “Star Wars”? Whenever I tell people that my favorite pastime is re-watching animated movies, they tend to look at me and make their faces like “Aren’t you too old for cartoons?” Well, how can someone ever be too old for Disney! I have watched over a hundred animated movies. And the best part about them is that they create urge to re-watch them because they are so badly good. And when I re-watch them, I still laugh at the same jokes, cry at the same moments and enjoy every single clip.
As a child, everyone watches cartoons. I was seven when I first watched “Dora The Explorer”. I was so obsessed that I made my mom get me the 'Dora' hairstyle and buy me that flower bracelet.
Then I discovered Disney Princesses. It was a whole other world!
I had only listened to the stories of 'Cinderella' and 'Sleeping Beauty'. I used to have these pretty princess pictures in my imagination and nothing made me happier to find them even more beautiful than what I had painted in my mind. Since then, I am awestruck by the characters, the story line, the concept of the illustrators and of course, the hard work put into it by an awesome group of people.
I can give a hundred reasons why I love watching animations.
Well, the first thing is that it makes me happy. The main purpose of any movie is to provide entertainment and animated ones are full of it. It gives me immense pleasure watching 'Nemo' find 'Martin' or when 'Fiona' falls in love with 'Shrek'.You don’t find such perfect stories in normal movies so I choose animated over real-world movies. Another thing that I love about animated movies is the happy ending. Yes, the path is full of obstacles and dangers but there is always ‘Happily Ever After'.
The good always wins over the evil and this helps me when I am having a hard time in my life.
This keeps me patient and optimistic. Oh! The awesome thing is the songs in them. The movies have songs that are really meaningful and cheerful and dreamy. ‘Let It Go’ in “Frozen” has a really sophisticated lyrics where as ‘Happy Song’ in the “Smurfs” is so intriguing though there is not much to it. The songs have the ability to connect to you, and that is really applaudable.
Since the main audience of these movies is children, the harmony and love shown is really thoughtful. These movies also spread love towards animals. You know how the Disney Princesses have friends that are mostly animals or how the cats and dogs help each other in “The Secret Life of Pets”. It touches me how these movies are promoting love towards other living beings.
And the best of all, have you noticed that most of the animated movies have female protagonists?
I am not a feminist but it is commonly thought that all the heroes are guys and the princesses are girls and how it is a duty of a guy to protect a girl. I think that these movies challenge the stereotypes of gender biasness. 'Mulan' goes on to disguise as a guy to save her father and defeats all the other men proving she is not worthless. 'Judy',the rabbit from “Zootopia” proves herself though no one believed in her. These female leads are some of the powerful messages these movies convey.
Besides that, these movies have awesome characters and stories that are totally unique. “Monsters Inc.” shows how monsters can be our friends; “Kung Fu Panda” shows no one is born ready but you will learn what it takes to be successful; “Inside Out” provides a unique story about the characters controlling our brain; “Shrek” goes on to tell that it doesn’t take a prince charming for a perfect love story; “Ratatouille” gives us a brand new vision of world from a rat’s perspective. Each movie has an extraordinary story that anyone can fall in love with. So yes, I am an adult and I am still in love with these movies!
