Philly fans are probably still screaming with excitement a couple days after the week 3 game of the Eagles versus the Colts. Not only because they won, but it's because HE is back. THE Carson Wentz is back and better than ever. The 3 year QB made his season debut September 23rd against the Colts, and he proved that he is ready to take on the new year with his team. Foles will be missed, as he did win the Eagles their first Super Bowl in history this past February, but it is time for Wentzylvania to take it back.
How did Carson do in his first game back? Well, let's talk about it.
Overall his game included 25 completed passes out of 37 for 255 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Though he obviously has done better in previous games last season, that is pretty freaking good after being out for 9 months. ESPECIALLY without Alshon Jeffery, Sproles, and Ajayi. Wentz mainly threw to his tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. Dallas being the receiver of Wentz's first touchdown. Besides that, Wentz also gave the ball to Clement and Smallwood to run it, which ended up getting them down the field faster for each drive.
What really stood out to me is Wentz's ability to throw the ball without hesitation. If he sees an open guy, he throws it with insane accuracy. Of course there were throws that were knocked down or missed completely, but overall the QB proved that he still has it in him to play the game. Now I have been an Eagles fan for quite awhile, so maybe this comes off as biased (okay it definitely does), but there is no doubt that Wentz is the glue for this team.
Yes, Foles pulled it off last season, and proved himself to be legit. I'm not saying Foles doesn't deserve to be the QB of this team because he obviously has value and great skills. All I'm saying is that Wentz showed amazing growth in his second year last year, and displayed even more potential during week 3. The fact that he was able to step in after being gone for almost a year, and still play as well as he did shows that he still has it. I've said that about three times in this article but it is true: he. still. has. it.
Was his week 3 performance great because he played well or was it because the Colts are not that great of a team? Did he get lucky or did the Eagles maintain their skill sets and energy from last season? People will argue about this and have their opinions. Again, me being absolutely biased, I believe that the Eagles are the best they have ever been within the past decade, and that Wentz is still an amazing QB. The chemistry between him and his offense is real, intelligent, and quick. Carson Wentz is able to stay on his feet while on under pressure, and can still make plays when things go wrong. That is not only because Wentz is talented, but also due to the fact that the offense works hard and has compatibility with him.
All in all, the Eagles are ready to take on the season with their famous QB back on the field with them. They do have a rather more tough schedule ahead of them, with the Vikings, Panthers, Jaguars, and Saints coming up in future weeks, but there is no doubt in my mind that they will pull through. To all my Philly fans out there: this is our season. No matter what the outcome, it will be a very good year for us. GO BIRDS!
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!
