A Profile On Carley Huxley
Justice Matsuoka

Slaying her way through high school, Carley Dawn Huxley, a junior, has a passion for writing and making the world a better place. Huxley isn’t the typical teenage high school girl. She strives for being different, and strays away from conforming to who/what society wants her to be.

Huxley has attended Sam Barlow High School for three years, making this year her fourth and final year. After high school, it is said that Huxley plans on staying in Oregon and attending Mt. Hood Community College.

Constantly surrounded by her three best friends: Justice Matsuoka, Rachel Wheeler, and Kaylee Weitz; Huxley enjoys every single second of being with them. Some of her favorite things to do with her friends is watch “Teen Wolf” and “Scream,” eat food, and go on adventures.

Outside of school, Huxley works for her dad at his furniture store in Sandy, where she enjoys spending time with him as well as her dog. Having divorced parents, Huxley resides with her mother and stepfather, and her two animals: Kitty(Mamas) the cat, and Foxie the dog.

Huxley has a passion for writing and drawing/painting. She is constantly expressing herself through her work and is inspired by anything. Huxley recently finished a book she was writing called “Skiff and Q.” It is about this girl who is dealing with herself and her relationships with the community, in the wake of her mother's suicide.

Also having a passion for music, you could most likely catch Huxley singing an indie pop song, or a popular tune from a musical. At her middle school, Damascus Middle School, Huxley used to be apart of the theatre department. Known for her roles as the breadman in “Beauty and the Beast,” a feather girl in “Seussical The Musical,” and Sandy in “Grease,” Huxley has since then retired from theatre, but many have said they would love to have her back.

Huxley is known to have a good spirit and high optimism and love for everyone.

“I love how understanding she is. She supports me no matter how far fetched my idea or dream is,” said Kaylee Weitz.

Many have said that Huxley is also known to light up the room with her enthusiasm and bright smile. Her laugh is also known to be one of her key features, for it is so sincere.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
