I Could Not Care Less About The Lives Of Celebrities, And I Do Not Understand Why You Do

They just aren't that interesting.

I’m the type of person who only knows the names of most celebrities simply because the media is saturated with them, and they are unavoidable. However, I have no interest in spending time or energy thinking about these people beyond that. It seems like an idle, thoughtless way to occupy oneself.

I cannot wrap my head around why people care so much about the lives of celebrities. Why does it matter that so and so just broke up or that someone just had a baby? Who are we, as the general public, to have an opinion on these life events? Why do they matter? And more importantly, why do people care so much?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not calling those who do find enjoyment from being in the know, and gossiping about people who they have never, and most likely will never, meet foolish or childish. I simply just do not understand it.

I cannot count the number of times I’ve heard girls talking about "The Bachelor" as I have walked down the street. From what I have gathered, it is a show that more or less pits girls against each other to win the affections of a single guy. I understand that drama can be addicting, but why do people choose to support such a concept? It just seems like a sorry excuse to make theatrics out of a decision that is meant to be serious. Do people really think love, real love, can be found by narrowing down a selection of chosen women?

"The Bachelor" is only one example. From reality TV shows to Instagram, people choose to pay, what I consider, too much attention to celebrities from all over the media.

Then again, it can be argued that celebrities, including those who participate in reality TV shows like "The Bachelor," have consented to be put on display and scrutinized. Of course, there are gains to living such a public life. There is money to be made and egos to be rubbed. Often, that speaks louder than privacy, and the fact that people are willing to tune in and pay attention is a crucial part of making it all worthwhile.

Whatever reason people have for caring so much, I can’t say that I will ever be ones of those fans who shares the desires to invest time and emotion into the lives of people who only exist as people on a screen.

Why spend so much time thinking about other peoples lives when we could be living our own?

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
