When we first look at a specific food we seem to categorize them in two ways; good or bad. Meaning we either see them as junk for our bodies or healthy and pleasing. There will always be the food we see as "bad" for you but is just too tempting to say no.
To a lot of people, the "bad" foods are the CARBS.
But are carbs really that bad for you? Can cutting them out of your diet actually be worth it?
We're taught to learn in our health classes growing up that science says they're bad for you. Pasta, pizza, bread, etc. are the super calorie infused carbohydrates that are worse for you than other carbs like whole grains and legumes that are considered to be "nutrient rich." There's a whole list of "Good Carbs vs. Bad Carbs."
The truth about these "bad carbs" is that they're not bad for you. They're actually needed in our diet. The thing we forget is that an excessive amount of any food is bad for you. You can cut "the bad carbs" from your diet and switch to eating fruit. However, even an excessive amount of fruit and vegetables can turn into almost the same effect as eating the bad ones.
The process of cutting/adding carbs isn't simply about picking and choosing which ones you think are good or bad. Instead, you need to reevaluate how you're satisfying your hunger. Calories aren't what satisfy your hunger. Instead, it's three specific nutrients.
1. Fiber
2. Protein
3. Healthy Fats
Refined carbs lack these 3 nutrients and instead just fill you up with cheap calories that make you hungry again. Keep these three nutrients in mind, and you'll feel the difference in a balanced diet! Trust me!
