Last week there was a lot of activity in the Marvel Universe. The "Captain Marvel" teaser poster released along with new official photos and even the teaser trailer. Needless to say, it was beyond exciting and gave us a shred of hope after the devastation of "Infinity War." This movie is going to be huge for many reasons, the obvious being it's the first female lead in Marvel cinematic history. On top of being a female superhero, Carol Danvers, which is Captian Marvel's alter ego, is also a female Air Force officer.
But, of course with female empowerment come internet trolls.
Captain Marvel or Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, has received numerous comments about how she isn't smiling in any of the shots released from the movie. To all my ladies out there we've all been there when some stranger at the grocery store comes up to you with a skeevy line telling you that you would look "prettier" if you smiled. No, leave me alone with my RBF. Anyways, Larson's clap back was the best response ever, she took images of male Marvel characters (so all of them) and photoshopped smiles onto their stern faces making them look creepy while trying to fight off aliens. Point: Larson.
My millennials will also love this part. The whole movie is set in the '90s. In the trailer you catch Captain Marvel falling from the skies and makes a crash landing right in a Blockbuster. Of course, being set in the '90s, Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, is several years younger in the storyline and the computer-generated imagery (or CGI for short) looks unbelievable. Bring on the '90s nostalgia and iconic fashions!
Captain Marvel will be the strong woman we never knew we needed in our lives and we only have to wait six more months to see it. I could continue on and on going into detail about how I'm already obsessed with "Captain Marvel" and we haven't even gotten a full trailer yet but I'll step down off my soapbox. But, before I do everyone needs to go see this movie when it releases on March 8th, 2019 to make it the best box office weekend Marvel has to date. Maybe then we will get the female lead superhero movies we deserve.
