Capere Semestri!

We are now seizing the semester.

With a new semester ahead of us, we have the chance to correct everything we felt wasn't necessarily right in our paths. Many of us went into the Fall semester without a clue as to how we were supposed to handle the new changes we were exposed to. Then when it came to an end, we sat back and wondered how in the absolute hell did we do that?! Now with a whole new semester ahead of us, we have the opportunity to start with a completely new outlook.

Stop setting your alarm clocks for 10 minutes before class starts. Wake up have a cup of coffee, do your eyebrows, and head to class without rushing. Say good morning to the familiar faces you pass or even the unfamiliar ones as well.

Review your notes after each class to make sure you know the material, and write down any questions you have for the next class. Now, I know I'm not the only one that made the mistake of consistently brushing a course off until test day. Studying the material way before test day and staying on task is a lot easier than cramming.

Get healthy! Public Service Announcement: THE FRESHMAN 15 IS REAL! Winter is coming to an end, and here's your opportunity to get out more, eat better, and kick your unhealthy habits to the curb. Maintaining a balanced schedule will make the previously mentioned challenges much easier!

Do something you never thought you would! Whether that means get a tattoo, go out on the weekends, find a new interest, go to a museum, join new clubs, or whatever makes you uncomfortable! Go outside of your limitations and try something new. How far are you ever going to get in life by saying "no" to everything new?

Whatever you were doing beforehand that you felt worked or didn't work for you, don't be afraid to make some changes and figure out what works for you. It's hard to wake up early, study when you don't necessarily have to, and get healthier; but changing up the pace of things could quite possibly work out in your favor more than you ever thought it could. We've all heard of carpe diem, and many of us find it motivating to "seize the day" for all that it's worth. Try doing it for the whole semester. We all deserve to come out on top eventually, but just as often as we all hear "Carpe Diem," it has been set in our minds that nothing worth having ever comes easy. So even if we deserve a semester to finally "treat us right," it's up to us to seize the semester!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
