Taylor Swift is a popular name among this generation. She's always nominated for at least one award at all the music awards each year and she's constantly in the headlines. She's very successful, as she's always at the top of the charts for her music. Some her songs even stay at the top for more than a year; however, her music isn't the only thing she's known for. Obviously, celebrities are going to be in the press for their every move because, well, they're famous. Taylor, though, seems to make the news pretty often for her altercations with other celebrities as well.
Taylor Swift started her career very young, as she was only 14 years old when she was first signed by Sony Music. She released her first album in 2006, titled Taylor Swift. Since her debut album, she has released 4 albums since then, Fearless, Speak Now, Red and 1989. Last month, she released a single from her new album (Reputation) titled "Look What You Made Me Do." At the beginning of her career, Swift was strictly a country artist, but Red and 1989 started her transition into the pop music genre.
Now, with all of her musical accomplishments in mind, we can all agree Taylor Swift is a very talented musician. She has even been known to do philanthropy work and to donate money to causes she believes in; however, I just can't bring myself to be a fan of hers. Because not only does she provide us with new music each year, but she also seems to be involved with some kind of new drama too. She's had Twitter drama with a number of celebs, such as Nicki Minaj and Kim and Kanye West. Not only was there some kind of disagreement between them, but it all usually makes its way onto Twitter for the whole world to see. Taylor Swift is 27 years old, and though it may not always be her fault, she's always wrapped up in high school type drama on social media. You can find articles upon articles of the "back and forths" she's been a part of over the years.
Another big thing with Taylor Swift was her "squad" ordeal. Her friend group was constantly being referred to as her squad and many of the friends in this group were in her "Bad Blood" music video. Nothing wrong with this right? Well, there wouldn't be if there wasn't constant gossip about "who Taylor kicked out of her group now." It seems that she's always having an issue with someone, therefore she is removing someone or they're removing their self from her squad. She really does seem to have bad blood with a number of other celebs. That's just too much built up anger and drama for someone who has such a successful career doing what they love to do.
Her recent release of "Look What You Made Me Do" was also kind of a disappointment for those that are "Swifties". It wasn't her typical pop, or even her old country music, style. It seemed to be a more angry song about revenge since she is now referred to as the "new Taylor Swift." This is the second time she's kind of reinvented herself, the first being her switch from country to pop music. There's nothing wrong with wanting to change your style every once in awhile, but sometimes it seems like this is Taylor's way of making sure she stays relevant.
She should take the advice of one of her songs from the album 1989 and just "Shake It Off." The famous ones are always going to have those who dislike them, but that doesn't mean you have to do anything about it or even acknowledge it. You don't have to stray from who you are, Taylor, just to stay in the headlines. You're talented and your music will take you far, but your drama and scandals will not.
I can't say that I don't enjoy some of her music because that would be a lie; I just can't be a fan of hers. I would never be able to look up to her as a role model because she doesn't set the best example for her younger fan base. She's an extremely talented musician, and she always has been, but she lets the drama get the best of her too many times to count.
