You Can't Say 'No' to A Music Festival: Austin City Limits

Austin City Limits has posted their 2015 lineup and let me tell you: you don't want to miss out on this! The festival takes place in the wonderful Austin, Texas at Zilker Park. It takes place over two weekends. October 2nd-4th, and October 9th-11th. Headliners include Foo Fighters, Drake, The Strokes, Florence and The Machine, Hozier and many other amazing artists. Music festivals are a mild obsession of mine, so I already know where I'll be for those two weekends in October. But for those of you who are doubting ACL's greatness, or debating whether it's worth forking over the 250 dollars for your three day pass, here are some thing to consider.

  • 1) It's in Austin-This alone should be enough, considering that there is a ton more to do in Austin then what is available to you here in Fort Worth. Even if you aren't big into music, the after hours on the dirty six will be an experience of its own.
  • 2) It's educational- There is no better place to learn about music and discover new artist than firsthand at a music festival. Even if you think you don't like a band or certain type of music, from what you've previously heard on the radio or online, hearing a live show is unlike anything else and the experience could quite possibly change your mind on a few things.
  • 3) It's an excuse- We all know what festival clothes look like, and we wish that it were acceptable to wear them on a daily basis. But since it would be frowned upon to show up to work with ten flash tattoos in a crop top, with high waisted shorts and a flower headband, we need an excuse and a place to fulfill our dream of being a boho hippie princess. Not only is ACL the perfect place to express your style, but attending such a huge event is also an excuse to post multiple instagrams too close together. DO IT FOR THE GRAM!
  • 4) It's fun- In my opinion, there's nothing or no one who can deny that you'll have fun at ACL. What's not to love? You have great live music, with great food and drinks, in a great city, surrounded by great people!

All I'm saying is, from one broke college student to another, Austin City Limits is worth the money. If you weren't considering going, I hope that now you are! If you want to go, I hope you take this as a reminder to start planning, ordering, organizing, and booking hotels to ensure that you have the best possible trip. Get a group together and go check it out, after all, would you rather go and have the experience, or not go and still be wondering "what if"?

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
