10 Reasons I Am Not Ready To Be An Adult

Why I cannot possibly survive adulthood.

10 Reasons I Am Not Ready To Be An Adult

1. Making your own phone calls.

We all know the dreaded phone call to the doctor because we need to make an appointment, but if you are like me you do not want to pick up the phone. I am phone shy and I sometimes can barely order a pizza. Being an adult means calling for your own appointments for doctors and dentists, and attempting to put your health first.

2. Having to make your own money.

Unfortunately, we cannot all get a small loan of one million dollars. Having a job is something that we all need, because we need money to basically survive. It is hard struggling to have a job to make money and attempt to have some sort of social life. The even more frustrating part is when you are trying to get a job and no one seems to be hiring.

3. Waking up on your own.

Remember that time when you were almost late to the bus and your parents woke you up? Well you might as well forget that because as an adult you actually can’t just “miss your alarm” because generally there will be no one to wake you up. If you don’t wake up, it's your own fault.

4. What do you mean I have an overdraft fee?

This is one of the most frustrating things that can happen to a new adult. One minute you are shopping away and the next you are checking your bank account and realizing that you actually spent more than you had. Now, you have to somehow pay a fee and get your account in the positive numbers, all with that job you are struggling to have.

5. That flat tire is not going to fix itself.

Great. You go out to your car and realize that there is an unexpected problem. It could be any problem, one with the sudden knock under your car or your brakes don’t work. It becomes another bill on the pile that I would somehow have to pay.

6. Affording your own food.

Life becomes more difficult when you can no longer come home to a full fridge and pantry. As an adult you actually have to make your own food and plan your own meals. How frustrating is that?

7. How do I even pay taxes?

One thing that high school never taught me is how to do my own taxes. What do these different forms mean? Why don’t I get all of my money back? It is a complicated process involving a W2 form, I think?

8. I don’t know how I am going to pay for my loans.

I have hit the point where I am now beginning to stress out about how in the glorious world I’m going to pay my loans back. I wish not to speak anymore about this problem.

9. You don’t need sleep that badly anyways.

There are times now when I hardly have time to sleep, mostly because I am attempting the homework I procrastinated too long or just plain tossing and turning. It is hard to try and find a normal sleep schedule now. It’s not like being a kid when you have a “bedtime” and people reminding you that you actually have to sleep.

10. Doing your own laundry.

Last of all, one has to learn how to work the forbidden washer and dryer. This may include having to pay for it, which is just as frustrating as trying to learn the difference between washing with cold and hot water.

Despite all of these problems that come with adulthood, I am lucky to have some preparation that has come from my family members and friends. As much as I may dread adulthood, I cannot wait to see where it takes me!

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
