WE CANNOT ALLOW THE MEDIA TO DEFINE WHO WE ARE

Has there ever been a time where you wanted to change something about yourself because you didn't like the way it looked? Ever thought that you were too light or too dark so you wished that you can change your skin tone? Was it that you weren't comfortable with your weight and you wished that you can gain or loose it? There're so many things that can keep us from loving ourselves. I want you ladies to know that you're more than just your appearance! So much more comes with being beautiful.

There was a point where I wished my lip was all the same color.... my natural color. On a section of my lip, I have what is called "vitiligo" which is a skin condition where the skin loses its' pigment. I would often ask myself "why me?" or "how can I get rid of it?" As time went on I started to feel better about embracing it. Now that I'm older, I make the decision on if I want to wear lipstick or just go without it some days. I became confident about myself and you can become confident about yourself too! There's so much more than just our appearance. Our confidence is one thing that stands out. Showing people that you're sure about something is what counts.

We live in a world where we idolize other women's bodies so much that we forget who we are on the inside and outside. Then we start to dislike ourselves and that way that we look. Often times hearing "I wish I had that body." or "I would look a lot better with that body figure."That's a problem. I have seen many people around me who wanted to change the way they look as a goal. Now don't get me wrong, if you want to exercise to have a slimmer body go for it! Do it for yourself. I don't want women putting pressure on themselves on getting a certain way because of what they see on social media. You don't have to be fit by only having muscles and abs. Putting this amount of pressure on yourself can be mentally and physically unhealthy. There is so much that can go wrong, anorexia or any other eating disorder which can lead to self-harm.

One thing to remember is to love yourself. I cannot stress this enough. You are your own person. You have your own likes, own goals and your own talents. Once you start to accept yourself for who you are, you start to live life the way you want it. Instead of finding ways to change something about yourself start learning ways where you can become a better you and make sure that you're doing it for the right reasons!

Need help with building up your self-esteem? Below are a few tips!

1.Stop being hard on yourself. More positive self-talk!

2.Know that nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes.

3.Stop comparing yourselves to others.

4.Focus on ways you can change.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
