On Monday, September 25th, the Canisius College Republican Club hosted their first general body meeting of the year. Last year the club existed mostly in name, there was little organization and even less actual meeting. However, with a brand new E-Board and an enthusiastic new batch of members, the club looks forward to a great year.
Recognizing that college campuses are often very democrat and liberal in nature, the Canisus College Republican's club aims to give a voice to those who feel politically isolated here on campus. Even if Republican and Conservative ideas represent a minority of thought, it does not make them any less important. Given the whirlwind of recent political activity at the state and federal level, taking a vested interest in politics is more important than ever.
At the meeting the goals for the year were discussed. These include a potential debate in the Spring with the Canisius Democrats club and the Canisius Republicans club facing off against each on a litany of issues. The members present also discussed the importance of bringing speakers on campus that represent Republican ideals and values. Finally, the idea of caroling in December to put the Christ back in Christmas, and tying that in with food donations to a local pantry or Church rounded out the ideas.
For anyone looking to join the club will aim to meet once a month usually on a Monday at 6. Be on the look out for posters and and announcement in the Canisius Today blog once the meeting date is set.
