Where are all my candle lovers out there? Not a lover? Perhaps you just have not found the right scent. It's okay, it will come. It's incredible to think about all the directions a candle scent can go.
The leaves are falling when you smell "Pumpkin Spiced Latte". There must be a storm and Santa is on his way when you smell "Candy Cane." "Mahogany Teakwood" for a sensual, dark, Earthy kind of a night. School is out and it's summer when you smell "Pink Lemonade." Perhaps you are feeling fresh and energized; "Fresh linen." How about "Sweet Pea" when you are feeling like an innocent little angel? I could go on and on. Think of all the smells on this Earth; I bet you there is a candle scent for it!
There truly is a connection between candle scents and moods. Dictionary.com defines aromatherapy as "the use of aromatic plant extracts and essential oils in massage or baths." These same oils found in candles are used to promote physical and mental well being.
Below are some helpful plant/flower extracts and oils found in candles that can help put you in that mood you are looking for:
Pure Bliss- Tangerine and vanilla promote happiness. They also support a calm and relaxed state of mind.
Concentration- Burn cinnamon to help get those creative juices flowing! Also, try burning eucalyptus to enhance your mental focus.
Peace- To feel peace and tranquility after a long day or maybe a fight (I hope not) try lighting a candle with lemongrass
Energy- I know we all need this one early in the morning! Light a candle with peppermint scents to get you going in the morning. Side note: If you really have a hard time getting up in the morning, buy peppermint oil and bring it in the shower with you. Put a couple drops on your shower floor. Once the hot water hits it, and the steam starts to get going, the smell of peppermint will awaken you during your morning shower. It really works!
Sleepy time- Lavender and chamomile are the perfect scents to help you fall asleep. You will think happy and positive thoughts for the next day.
Stress relief- Bad day at work? Light a candle with orange or sandalwood.
It is great to know that sometimes words are not necessarily needed to help get you in or out of a mood. LIGHT A CANDLE! It is a great way to get in touch with yourself and your emotions. Turn on some music, dim the lights, and relax outside or on your bed and enjoy this time to yourself.
Try to experiment with different scents. Track how certain scents make you feel.
Have a great week everyone!
