Ethical shopping and mindful consumerism have become puzzling and complex commotions within America. The consumer problems and dietary habits Americas may face can be heavily attributed to a number of imbalances such as, genetically engineered food and ingredients, diminutive regulations on genetically engineered food and unconscious consumer habits.

The GMO state of mind has been continuously enforced in production, agriculture and consumerism. Reaching a predominant peak of concern, genetically engineered food impedes great threats on the health and wellness of millions of Americans.

According to the Center for Food Safety, it is estimated that around 75 percent of processed food in supermarkets may contain genetically engineered ingredients. Products include, and are not limited to, meat, fish, sodas, condiments, cookies, chips and more. Additionally, more than 87 percent of the food in super markets may contain other abnormal and toxic chemicals such as pesticides, preservatives and hormones. What surfaces even more concern for genetically engineered food, pesticides, and preservatives is the cancerous properties and altering neurological abilities these chemicals and abnormal foods burden.

1. Farmed Fish

Bread, raised and grown at a rapid and unnatural rate to meet corporate and consumer demands, farmed fish are treated with a number of modifying genetic enhancers. Commercial fish farms treat fish with pesticides, antibiotics, carcinogenic chemicals and more to try and minimize and control bacterial and parasitic epidemics that are derived from too many fish in small spaces. Farmed salmon is one fish in particular that is a highly hazardous cancer food. According to Nature News, often times fishes that are farmed are contaminated with carcinogenic chemicals, which are known for causing cancer. Additionally, farmed salmon can contain high and risky chemical levels of flame retardants, pesticides, PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) antibiotics and more.

2. Canned Goods

Canned foods provides a conserving purpose to consumers. Consequently however, preserving contents demands for the incorporation of chemicals and preservatives. A majority of canned goods are coated with various chemicals, one chemical in particular being, bisphenol-A (BPA). According to a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences, the neurological damage BPA can cause is revealed. The study exposed the effects BPA had on rats. The chemical, BPA had the ability to modify how the genes work inside the brains of rats, altering their natural chemical and neurological balances. A chemical which has been shown to genetically alter the genes and brains of rats, is being incorporated into canned goods, which is then packaged to sell in super markets to the 318 million people in the U.S. What will the long term effects on people be from the consumption of preserving chemicals like BPA?

3. Microwave Popcorn

According to Natural News, the lining to the bags of microwave popcorn are coated with hazardous chemicals that are directly linked to causing numerous health complications, with the ability to cause infertility in both men and woman and liver, testicular and pancreatic cancer. A highly common and toxic ingredient present in microwave popcorn is perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in microwave popcorn and has been supported and linked through numerous studies to cause tumors. Additionally, the ingredients present in popcorn itself also possess cancerous qualities. Diacetyl is one common ingredient and threatening chemical that is present in popcorn and has been lined to causing both minor and serve lung damage and cancer.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
