Cancer Awareness

Cancer is the one disease humans cannot predict. It is the unexpected factor that haunts all life across all spectrums. Cancer does not care if one is poor, elderly, famous, or even a child. The disease may intrude with a vanquishing determination, or hint its beginning with disclosed subtlety. Either way, cancer is cancer.

It is the life-changing event many people face on a daily basis, and one most have to be wary of. Soon a neighbor is diagnosed or a family member who you have been so close with now seems farther away than before. Doctor’s visits and medical bills pile up; treatments lower physical ability and mental stability. But, there is something cancer cannot degrade: willpower.

Cancer cannot douse an inner light even though it may feel like one is being strangled. It cannot cut off the support systems, the research, the friend who offers to drive to appointments. Cancer cannot kill its own opponent. The connections cancer creates between people no matter how painful and heartbreaking it may be, can last lifetimes.

This disease does make barriers, some physical and some not. But what cancer cannot destroy is the loving relations of families, the overwhelming optimism of friends and the sheer determination to fight. You're not only fighting for your body but also your soul. Without it there is only an empty shell to wonder the earth with.

But by fighting for your soul the path of life changes. You realize your own importance to the world and your effect on other people. Cancer can be scary and unpredictable, but so is the rest of life. Coming together and supporting each other no matter what the disease, is how we can fight it.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
