My family is made up of die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fans. Philly can tend to get a bad reputation for our tenacious fans. But, it is because we love our city. We could not imagine cheering for anyone else. Each year they may give us hope and let us down, but throughout the season we cherish the time we spend being on edge waiting to see if the Eagles will make the playoffs. Here are some times, even my family, shook our heads at our fellow Eagles fans. These are the times that fans were maybe a little too passionate.
1. It all started in 1968 when our fans threw snowballs at Santa.
2. In 1998, we installed a jail below Veteran Stadium along with our own judge to preside over our rowdiest fans.
3. No one will forget in 1999 when the whole fan base cheered when the Cowboys quarterback, Irvin, was carted off the field with a career-ending injury.
These are the classic examples. We consistently boo our players, we consistently boo all of the fans who are not wearing the Eagles green. We've thrown batteries at players and Santa Claus. We will continue to cheer for our team in any way that will inspire them. We just want a championship. We just want one year to go our way. When Andy Reid was fired there was hope in Chip Kelly. Now Chip Kelly is gone, so there is room for improvement and possibly room for some more hope. Every season brings hope and every season usually brings disappointment. But maybe Wentzslyvania will help us turn the corner. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Fly Eagles Fly.
