Can Snapchat Remove Daily Mail from my Newsfeed?

If you're reading this, go to your Snapchat. Swipe all the way until you get to the news stories you can click on. Find Daily Mail. What do you see as a headline?

In 2016, almost every time I checked my Snapchat news stories, I was always turning my head at some of the news stories that appeared on my screen. Now, the Snapchat news section is helpful sometimes; however, I personally don't agree with the media platforms on there, specifically Daily Mail. Looking at their news stories, I was constantly appalled by the irrelevant and questionable content covered in 2016. Throughout the year, I have taken several screenshots of some of their headline photos on Snapchat. Below are some of the stories:

So here on the top right we have "Khloe's a busty boss". I didn't even need to open the article to know what the story was about, or who the article pertained to. While the entertainment news "source" highlights women and their sex appeal, they also highlight when women cause controversy with their outfits, such as below:

Once again, I don't even need to read the article to know what it's about, or who it's about. Here is another screenshot:

So in this screenshot, we get some awkward articles: from Sofia sizzling, the picture with the female picking her nose, the hooking up article, it seems like the sports article is out of place.

That seems like enough screenshots of articles, but the point is this: with the articles coming from Daily Mail and such, are these articles even relevant and appropriate for us Snapchat users?

Now, Daily Mail is an actual news outlet, having sections on science, health, money, and even politics, yet they constantly make their highlighted article about someone who barely has clothes on. In 2016, there was huge controversy over relevant and factual news stories. People were angry over news articles-such as political stories- that used lies and libels to get media views and attention. Those on social media were outraged over the fake and irrelevant news stories. Personally, the Daily Mail articles on Snapchat, in my opinion, are irrelevant and inappropriate.

Secondly, considering that Snapchat is used by a large demographic and variety of ages, parents perhaps have no idea that their children are being exposed to provocative news articles, all highlighting women's sexual beings. Now, there is nothing wrong with empowering women and their bodies; however, I find it irksome when the media, like the Daily Mail, constantly highlights a Kardashian's body, whereas there are dozens of other ways to show body empowerment. Below is a most recent Daily Mail article, highlighting the person on who paints Kim Kardashian's butt:

Although the title is kind of funny, and strange, my mind constantly wonders: why does this matter? Will this article provide any relevant information to it's reader? Do people actually read this and care?

In 2016, news sources were simply outrageous and need to post relevant content in 2017. They need to step up their game for 2017, and try creating articles that don't highlight celebrities and every move or mistake they make. Give us stories that people care about; intriguing articles that will have readers curious, not this-do I dare say- garbage? For the new year, I really hope the best for news, and I honestly hope Snapchat can take these inappropriate news stories off the Snapchat news sections. Am I the only one who dislikes these kinds of news stories popping up on my screen?

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
