5 Resources You Should Take Advantage of at UC Irvine

I've been at UCI nearly four years now, and although I've made it this far, I could have saved myself many struggles and headaches. There are various resources that are designed to help students. I wish I would have taken advantage of more of them.

Here is a list of helpful resources on campus that may be particularly helpful:

Counseling Center

The goal of the Counseling Center is to help students develop their well-being to help them achieve academic success. It provides short-term counseling for individuals, couples, groups, and family counseling. They also have urgent care, psychological testing, and psychiatric interventions for current clients. They have groups that meet weekly for stress management, depression, relationships, and many more.

You can go to the Counseling Center for so many reasons, and they're willing to help you! You can make an initial appointment with a counselor, and then decide if you'd like to continue. Try it out!

Find them at 203 Student Services 1 on Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

The center has recently expanded! Find the annex on the 4th floor of the Student Center.

UCI Center for Student Wellness and Health Promotion

Advocacy. Awareness. Empowerment.

They have information on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, nutrition, sexual health, mental health, and wellness. They offer a variety of workshops, as well as anonymous HIV testing, a lactation station, and 10 free condoms per day for students. They've recently started to offer pads and tampons for emergencies too!

Try meeting with the dietician for tips on how to balance your meals and improve your eating habits.

Find them at G319 C on the 3rd floor of the Student Center on Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Campus Assault Resources & Education (CARE)

The office offers confidential support to people who have been impacted by sexual assault. They aim to end power-based violence by education the campus and encouraging action.

Check out the Green Dot Initiative to learn how to intervene appropriately when you suspect someone needs help, and their Clothesline Project which is very powerful.

LGBT Resource Center

The LGBT Center aims to provide support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex, transgender, queer, asexual, ally, and questioning members of the UCI campus by providing an inclusive space, an various programs and workshops. The center provides training in how to make a safe zone. They also host celebrations for National Coming Out Day, TransAction Day, Bisexual Visibility, and Pride Week.

Cross-Cultural Center

The CCC aims to nurture the various cultural identities on campus as well as maintain a campus that is socially just. Christmas Tree

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
