Campus Encounter is a weekend long event that allows various campus ministries to come to one location to be enriched and encouraged.
I have been coming to Oklahoma State for five years now and this past weekend was my 4th one that I have been to. This weekend can be a special time in the semester for different people, as well as for the different ministries that travel to come to OSU. What makes Campus Encounter special is the camaraderie that occurs with having different ministries come to campus.
This year we had Mitch Wilburn speak and the theme this year was Clean Hands. Mitch is a minister within the Tulsa area and throughout the weekend we were taken on a journey through Psalm 73 and various other parts in the Bible. During the lessons that Mitch would lead, there were analogies and breakthroughs that I could feel myself, as well as seeing that also within other people. The purpose of the post is to be a reflection of what a weekend like this can do for a student so here we go:
Campus Encounter happens in the Spring Semester and depending on different events, as well as timing, it can occur on the same weekend before or after mid-semester when tests and midterms happen. Being a student for my 6th year on a college campus, mid-February can be very busy. Being a graduate student, sometimes it feels like my weeks do not slow down, I am constantly on the go. This semester is a bit tougher than last semester, but overall, this semester has been great thanks to this weekend. After Campus Encounter, I can feel rejuvenated and completely different than before the weekend.
Also what can happen during Campus Encounter is friendships are either rekindled or made. This year I was able to get to know a group of girls even more and let me tell ya, oh was it sweet. I was also given the various opportunities to become closer with my college ministry group. Being invested and devoted to a college group makes my college experience even sweeter and makes life even sweeter. Not only does each individual campus ministry group become closer with one another, but also with other campus ministries. There’s power in numbers, which also enables each person within the group to be as strong as they can be.
