It's my favorite time of the year! The sweetness of long summer days filled with music, art and enlightenment. I truly find the vibe at music festivals to be one of the most healing aspects to life. So if you're preparing for your trip, here are ten things not to forget!
1. Coconut Water
I swear coconut water has saved me from so many hangovers. I usually drink two cans per day. One in the morning and one before sleep to make sure I'm hydrated and restoring all of my lost electrolytes from dancing and other nonsense. Make the investment and spend $20 on a case and throw them in the cooler as needed. You will be glad you did!
2. Baby Wipes
Whether or not you want to pay for an $8 shower, you should keep some baby wipes on you. If you're like me and go barefoot at festivals around your campsite, you're not going to want to bring all that dirt into your tent and onto your blankets. Not to mention, it can get pretty hot out there during the day and you'll probably be sweating quite a bit. They're second best to a shower to just freshen up before the night hits.
3. Snacks + Utensils
Unfortunately, most foods are perishable and are hard to keep cold/fresh when you're camping. However, eating meals from vendors can get pretty pricey. I try to bring as much as I realistically can to make sure I'm properly nourished. I take hummus + pita chips, greek yogurt + berries, carrots/celery + ranch, granola/energy bars, bananas etc. It's way healthier and cheaper to plan a few things in advance! Also, don't forget forks, spoons and knives.
4. Arts + Crafts
I use to take paint and canvas with me but that got to be so messy. Now I take colored string, hemp, and glass beads with me and, although I am no jewelry maker, it's really relaxing. Another thing I've gotten into in the past few festivals was coloring mandalas in those adult coloring books. Luckily, you can find tons online–just print out a handful and bring some markers. When you're done, give it to a friend. After all, festivals are about bonding and making memories!
5. Portable Speaker
Although you're going to be around music, you'll probably want some ambient music with you while at your camp. Since you probably won't be able to juice it up as it dies, opt for a cheap one from Target that uses batteries to make sure the music never stops all weekend long.
6. Shoes
Just don't wear open toed shoes. That is all.
7. Decorations + Incense
I'm a gypsy woman, but I like to make my camp as "homey" as possible. I bring every tapestry I own, paper lanterns, dream catchers, LED battery string lights, incense, pillows and blankets to make my fortress as relaxing as possible. Plus, if your camp is super cute, more people will come and chill!
8. Disposable Camera
Ok, you might think this is old school, but there is something so fun about not knowing what your photos are going to look like right after they're taken. I take two cameras and try and snap random candid moments of my friends–they're always happy I did!
9. Tapestry
Whenever I leave my camp I take a tapestry in my bag. You never know when you'll want to sit down and just take a breather.
10. Poncho
No, not a rain poncho. Warm days and cold nights mean variable temperatures. A jacket is probably too warm and nothing at all might get too chilly. A poncho is like an over-sized blanket but way cuter. Luckily, you can find them anywhere these days. The extra warmth plus no restriction of movement is the best way to go when you're dancing or resting.
