It's mid-July, and we're suddenly in the dead middle of summer and heat. What's a more perfect time to be outside, enjoying nature than right now? And what's a better way to be outside enjoying nature than going on a camping trip? After all, there's nothing better than hiking through the forest, lying under the stars and eating food from over a campfire.

Therein lies one of the biggest problems of camping trips, however. After all, there are only so many hot dogs and s'mores that you can eat before being thoroughly disgusted with campfire food.

So why not mix it up?

1. Campfire Cinnamon Buns

When people go camping, they tend to ignore breakfast. After all, storing eggs overnight with only a tent and cooler isn't exactly easy, especially in the summer heat. But with a cooler and enough ice, one could keep cinnamon buns. But how do you cook them, you ask? Obviously, you wrap them around your campfire fork and cook them over the fire. When they're finished, pull them off the forks and top with icing. Not only do you have a delicious breakfast, but also something easy and quick so you can get back to the trail.

2. Campfire Nachos

If you have a cast iron pan, tortilla chips and toppings, you're all set to make these campfire nachos. Layer tortilla chips, cheese and any other toppings you enjoy into your pan, cover with aluminum foil, then set the entire thing on a bed of hot coals. It's a simple snack for the long days and, best of all, it's completely customizable. Try queso cheese or American, ground beef or chicken, corn or tomatoes, or all of the above!

3. Hobo Dinner

So you're tired of hot dogs. Well, who isn't? Try something new with hobo dinners. Simply grab some ground beef, a potato, carrots and an onion, and layer them on a piece of aluminum foil. Season with salt, garlic powder, pepper and butter. Make sure to wrap the foil tight enough to keep everything in and ash out. Place on some hot coals and let cook. When it's done, you suddenly have a complete meal for dinner that's not the usual hot dog and condiments.

4. Waffle Cone S'mores

There's honestly no such thing as "too many s'mores," but if you have, somehow, managed to reach that extremely mythical level, try something that will give you a new twist, but will also make you remember why you loved s'mores in the first place. Grab a waffle cone and layer marshmallows, chocolate chips and chopped strawberries and bananas. Wrap that in some of that aluminum foil that you've been using for everything else already and lay on a bed of hot coals. Rotate a few times and you have a delicious twist on the traditional s'mores.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
