There comes a special feeling in moments of music and music only that no one else will ever understand or ever be able to feel no matter how hard you try to explain it. Where the artist says one small thing, does one small gesture, plays one part of a song, only for you to break and feel like you can really breathe again.
There’s a whole other feeling you get when you get to see an artist and feel all the emotions they give after admiring them for so long. And today, that person is Camila Cabello.
Camila Cabello found her first stardom of fame in 2012 after auditioning for The X Factor, an American singing competition, and being placed into a five-girl group today known as Fifth Harmony. The group stayed together as five, releasing three albums together and going on multiple tours.
Camila found it in her to break free from the group and announced herself as a solo artist in December 2017. And what a mark she has made for herself.
I had the lucky chance to see Camila in concert a little bit ago, and have not felt the way I felt during her show in any other show in a long time. I’ll admit, I am a naturally emotional person and you could probably find me shed a tear at least once no matter what concert I go to, but the emotion in this was different.
Instead of doing an album review as normal (and believe me, I do really want to), I thought I would do a concert review of her show pointing out my favorite parts.
Not only has Camila turned out to be one of the most admirable artists I’ve ever seen live, but she blew me away with the idea I had of expectations. Her visuals elevated what could’ve been a simple show, all the way to a new level. Her dancers, band, and the way she interacted with the crowd was extraordinary.
She opened the show with “Never Be the Same,” her second single released off her debut album, "Camilla Cabello," in December 2017. It was fitting really, as for she calls this tour the "Never Be The Same Tour."
Watching someone as young as Camila grow up throughout the years from as young as she was until now, is remarkable. Camila poured her heart and soul and every bit of emotion into this album and every ounce of that shows in her performance.
She carried on, eventually singing through every song on her album as well a few that didn’t make the cut and a cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”
Whether you know Camila’s music or not, or know her beliefs or not, or know part of who she is as a person or not, you would by the end of this show. Throughout the entire hour and a half, she was on stage, you could see every bit of herself in her performances.
Artists have a habit of singing a few songs, talking, singing some more songs, then breaking it up with some sort of interlude. Camila, obviously, followed this trend as well. After a short interlude, Camila went into a series of songs that built me up and up and up to the point of just utter tears.
The one song that, going into the show as well as even more now, means the most to me from her album is called “Something’s Gotta Give.” The song itself carries a lot of emotional connections with it, and the way she chose to present it only set me off more.
As I said, her visuals and productions made the show just that much better, and here is exactly where it did. Camila explained in the intro of the song what the song meant for her and why she wrote it. And if you listen to the lyrics and try so deeply to feel what she’s feeling, you’ll feel it too.
Her visuals including videos of school shooting survivors, walkout events, images and videos that present so much strength, power, and emotion. It’s easier explained by watching so it really is just worth the 3-minute watch.
In the end, you can tell where my passion lies, and it always has been with music. With music being something I feel so deeply for, I am lucky to be able to go to shows and concerts that I am able to and feel these emotions.
With that, as hard as I tried, I had to include my favorite lyrics from each song off her album because that’s simply my favorite thing to do.
Please give Camila’s album a listen to. I say this every time, it's still never enough, but it’s worth the listen, the time, and the heart.
