We all remember Camila Cabello from her debut on X Factor with girl group Fifth Harmony- being the most profile member of the group. Leaving the girl group was anticipated but no one ever expected the fall out to come with it. Quick flashback to the VMA’s in the fall when Fifth Harmony took the stage with 5 members then threw one off the stage (clearly shade).
Her long awaited album, Camila, is extremely stripped down and gets right to the point while only being at 10 songs. She also completely threw out the idea of the original album named The Hurting. The Healing. The Loving. Her hit song “Havana” hit number one for several weeks on several charts and showed the peak of Camila’s soon-to-be success- and people were not disappointed by this album.
The album begins with “Never Be the Same” and the entire album shows Camila experimenting with her sounds and lyrics. I was also surprised that the album didn’t sound exactly like Havana since the success it brought. Camila includes ballads of heartbreak such as “Something’s Gotta Give” (a personal favorite behind “She Loves Control”) and “Consiquences”.
It also includes a song of reflection “Real Friends” which has a chill beat and is generally about how she can’t trust anyone in the music business. If you’re into a more upbeat song she has that too with “Into It” and “Inside Out”. Basically, there’s something for everyone on this album.
Now onto my personal favorites. The two songs that stick out the most to me on this album are “Never Be the Same” and “She Loves Control. Both of these songs are different than what you would normally hear on the radio and also different then eachother. This album proved that leaving Fifth Harmony was a great decision.
