As I started packing up my life to head back to school, I came across a Facebook post announcing the opening of a new yoga studio in Oxford. Being a yoga fanatic for the past five years, I was ecstatic to hear that I could finally get my yoga fix while at school. Staying on top of your schoolwork, having a social life, and staying healthy is no easy feat; this is where my love for yoga comes in.

Dedicating one solid hour to a yoga class means one hour where I don’t have to stress. I can walk into the studio, plop down my mat and unwind, even if it’s just for 60 minutes. It helps A TON. I’m pretty tightly wound at times; therefore, practicing yoga is basically my safe haven.

Root Yoga

offers a number of yoga classes for all skill levels. Just starting out? The Basics of Yoga class is just for you. Is your balance not so good, but you’re still into yoga? Root offers Chair Yoga and provides yogis with a little extra stability. Or maybe you’re looking to sweat it all out after a crazy weekend at Hot Yoga.

Stop into Root Yoga right in the heart of uptown at 22 W. Park Place, right where Seaview Outfitters used to be. They offer a number of different class packages to fit that college budget. A drop-in is only $12 with your student ID!

Don’t have any equipment? Root has got you covered with mats, towels, and blocks. It’s fo' free!

If I haven't sold you by now, you may need to check your pulse.

When you're ready to get started you can set up an account from the comfort of your home! Buy the free Root Yoga app and in minutes you'll be signed up for your first class. It's super easy. Or you can always just stop by the studio and sign up in person; whatever floats your boat.

I can confirm that yoga has changed my life for the better and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to find some inner peace while building strength. It's amazing what a few downward dogs can do for you! Check it out, everyone.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
