I have always appreciated the news or even liked it. In fact, until recently, I never really paid mind to it because I found it sets inducing and depressing. But now, all that has changed. As a communication studies student, I see the importance of it and I understand now more than ever why we need great writers to write the news. Not opinions. News.
I started an advanced media writing class this semester and never realized the exact skill set it takes to be a news writer. I have always been the person who can easily write a paper of any kind and usually have a successful outcome, but oh boy, was I wrong when it came to news writing. Knowing how to ask the right questions has been one of the biggest challenges for me to overcome, albeit unsuccessfully, I may add, which gives me an endless appreciation for the true heroes.
Actual Journalists. To those who know how to ask the right questions and chase down the story until the truth comes out.
The Obama and Trump administration have been making reporters lives a living hell for years now; The Obama administration using the Espionage Act to put a record number of reporters in prison and Trump's coined "Fake News."
Here's the thing. Our government has been impending our Freedom of Press, which as a first amendment right, is getting kind of old. Our reporters are here to inform our people. We have the right to hear from our news outlets. We need our news outlets.
To the Obama admin: there should have never been a witch hunt for reporters, against the Constitution, for informing the citizens.
To the Trump admin: most of the news that you are declaring "fake news" about you, you're actually talking about editorials (most likely) or other forms of writing. These are not pieces of news. Please stop calling and saying much of the press is, "an enemy of the people," when they are here to inform us.
Calling all the journalists: Fight the battle, the people need you and they need the truth.
