Just as honey is to bears or as cheese is to a mouse, coffee is to a college student. Without it, many of us poor, sleep-deprived souls wouldn't be able to finish our ridiculously long papers or our confusing lab reports that are due the next day. So as we go late into the night, we reach for the savior that is coffee. Whether it be hot or cold, frappuccino or latte, we can rest assured, knowing that we will get a wonderful buzz from the magical substance of caffeine within our cups.
As the days go by and the assignments pile up, we find ourselves consuming more and more caffeine, which ultimately leads to the addiction that many of us have come to know. From running up the walls to talking to your cat, here are the main reasons you know you have a caffeine addiction.
1. You don't mind black coffee.
It has gotten to the point where you consume so much coffee that you don't even bother with the hazelnut creamer or sugar. Your brain seems to bypass the taste overall and you find yourself shamelessly guzzling cup after cup, completely ignoring the bitter taste.
2. You memorized the Starbucks menu.
Even though you can't seem to remember what your calculus homework was about last night, your brain somehow managed to memorize every item and size on the menu, as well as all the elaborate combinations that come with it. Grande, Iced, Sugar-Free Vanilla Latte With Soy Milk? Yes, please.
3. Your sleep schedule is all over the place and limited.
Sometimes you go to bed at 3 a.m. Sometimes you go to bed at 10 p.m. Either way, you can't seem to get more than six hours before instantly waking up. This only makes your day so much more unbearable, which ultimately leads to more coffee consumption. It's a painful cycle.
4. You acquire a taste for all things coffee-flavored.
Whether it's coffee ice cream or coffee cake, coffee gum or coffee popcorn, your insatiable craving for coffee goes beyond the actual drink itself and into other food items. You know that you ultimately have a problem when you ask if the pizza crust comes in coffee flavor. Get a hold of yourself.
5. You complain about not having coffee.
Withdrawal from this liquid treasure can be a terrible feeling for the drinker. You feel agitated, irritable, and just downright drowsy. Not to mention that you become a total grouch monster. However, the whole situation is more than likely worse for your friends and family, as they must constantly hear you complain and whine about being without your precious coffee.
Coffee addicts can agree unanimously that their addiction is clearly evident. Whether that is a positive or a negative is up for discussion, with a cup of coffee in hand, of course.
