Tokyo: Cafe Culture

more than just coffee

Tokyo: Cafe Culture

Anywhere you go in Tokyo you are bound to find a multitude of cafes. And not all of these cafes are your normal coffee shops. There's maid cafes, cat cafes, manga cafes, and even owl cafes. Going to a cafe in Tokyo is an experience all in itself. Whenever I went to a cafe I knew it was going to be something unique. There is so much thought put into the atmosphere and the layout of a cafe and you can really tell that they pay attention to detail. There was one small cafe that I went to that looked like an actual forest. There was a tree in the middle of the store and it was the cutest thing I had ever seen. Not only did the place look nice, but the food was amazing as well. Time and time again I was amazed by these Tokyo cafes. So amazed, in fact, that a friend and I decided that we would try to go as many different cafes as possible. We wanted to see what the possibilities were, and we were not disappointed.

As I mentioned before not only will you find normal cafes, but also niche cafes. It's been talked about many times on the internet about cat cafes and the fact that you can drink coffee while petting a cat. Yes, it's as amazing as it sounds. It's so cool that the Japanese people came up with this idea of being surrounded by one of the greatest animals in the world while drinking a coffee. It's so creative yet such a simple concept. You will find foreigners and Japanese alike enjoying the wonderful atmosphere of the cat cafe.

Tokyo cafes are something, I believe, that can not be found anywhere else in the world. I could describe hundreds of more cafes, but I think you should experience it for yourself. If you are ever in Japan make sure to take a tour of Tokyo cafes. You will not be disappointed.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
