Cadiz Bicentennial Celebration: Part One

Much different than most kids, I grew up with both of my parents in the school system. When my friends found out that my mom and dad are both high school teachers, they immediately felt sorry for me. I didn't mind it though, because it was the only thing I had ever known. My dad has always been very skilled at rattling off what I saw as useless facts about everything under the sun. Since I was little, he has tried to show me the importance of knowing the history of our country, sports, Cadiz, and anything in between.

In August, I started working at the Tourism Center here in Cadiz. I began hearing conversations about the Bicentennial Celebration and I blew it off because I thought if it was that big of a deal, I would have heard about it before. Little did I know, it would be the talk of the town for the entire year of 2020 and even after that. The more I heard about it, the more interested I became. I learned that Cadiz would be turning 200 years old (1820-2020) and there was TONS of history behind our little town.

Did you know there are two known Trigg Countians fighting in the War of 1812? Or that the first issue of the Kentucky Telephones Newspaper was published in Canton? Or even the story of the 1902 fires that destroyed the Cadiz Bank along with the Cadiz Hotel and multiple goods stores. These are all things that I have learned while researching the history in Cadiz! I encourage you to participate in the events that will be happening throughout the year and to collect your pins! If you would like to know more about the events and pins, stay tuned until next week!

I thought senioritis in high school was rough until I became a college senior about to go into the real world. I'm supposed to have everything figured out, right? I mean I went through four years of tough classes and serious self-searching (and crying). What I found overall was Senioritis sneaking up on me.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
