I'm Excited To Leave The Dorms, But I'd Be Lying If I Said I Won't Miss #DormLife

I'm strangely sad to throw away my shower shoes and twin sized mattress.

With the school year coming to an end, I have realized something I never thought I would: I am going to miss living in the dorm. Before pigs start flying, let me explain myself; there are so many experiences that living in a dorm allows for which makes me sad to leave. Miami University does not have sorority houses, which means that all sophomore girls are required to live in dorms. I was originally bothered by this, but my time in Hamilton Hall has been so enjoyable.

Although I am very excited to live somewhere with a real sized bed and a shower that does not require shoes, the dorm has been a great home.

1. I get to have a sleepover with my best friends every night

Living in the dorm means having one official roommate, and a bunch of unofficial roommates. Every night is a sleepover with all of your best friends which is always a fun time. Although I will still have roommates for the last two years of college, I will miss being with everyone.

2. Borrowing clothes has never been easier

As a girl, I get tired of my clothes very easily when I repeat my outfits a lot. But I no longer have to worry because now I have ten other closets at my disposal. It is so fun to share each other’s clothes for a night out or even a trip to Walmart.

3. All of my friends are only a couple doors away

It is so rare to live in the same place with all of your best friends. I feel so lucky to have them literally by my side all of the time. Whether we are are watching tv or simply sitting in silence on our phones, it’s so nice to be with them all day long.

4. Shower parties

Living with these girls means we do absolutely nothing by ourselves. We actually plan to shower at the same time so that we can still talk through the shower curtains. It is almost sad how dependent we are on each other.

5. I am never lonely

Regardless of if I am in a bad mood, bored or want to share some good news, I know I can knock on anyone's door and be with someone. And in reverse, I love it when people come to my room to hang out. It is all something that I have never experienced before and am so grateful for.

I am so excited for what the next two years of Miami will bring me, but it will be sad not having all of my friends down the hall from me. I have learned to love the dorm and am so grateful for all of the people who have made it such a great experience.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.

11 Ways To Live The Best Life You Can

Life is full of twists and turns, but you have to keep going.

Life is all about twist and turns, sideways and which ways. Nothing is permanent, so we should take risks, and chase our dreams. We are taught at a young age many lessons that will follow us into adulthood. What we aren't taught is how to feel, and how we handle those emotions. We just have to figure them out ourselves, and that's not fun. In my 21 years of living, I have come to know that way too many people can't handle emotions, or the fact that not everyone is dead inside like them. When you're like me, and you have zero control over your emotions, it's hard to feel comfortable around people who aren't so in touch with themselves. As much as I would like to feel nothing at times, I've accepted who I am and the fact that I can cry over practically nothing. So, there are some things in life that you just have to do.
