The 10 Best Buzzfeed Unsolved Episodes
YouTube

Buzzfeed Unsolved is a Youtube series where Shane Madej and Ryan Bergara explore true crime cases and supernatural phenomenon. The seasons go back and forth between analyzing unsolved crimes and visiting "haunted" locations. What makes Buzzfeed Unsolved so entertaining is the relationship between Shane and Ryan.

They are good friends and coworkers but have a continuing argument about whether or not ghosts are real. Ryan is an avid believer, and viewers often watch him become spooked by gusts of wind or weird creaks. Shane, on the other hand, does not believe in ghosts or the paranormal at all (other than aliens), so he is usually laughing while Ryan loses his mind.

Here is a list of my favorite episodes.

10. The Creepy Murder in Room 1049

This is the sixth episode of the second season of True Crime. Unlike most true crime episodes, I was not left with my own opinion on what could have happened. In a lot of famous unsolved cases (i.e. the JonBenet Ramsey case, Lizzie Borden), people familiar with the events have a firm belief of who did it and why, even if the case is not officially solved.

I tend to be one of those people, who make up my own mind from the facts laid out in front of me. This case, however, left me really stumped. There are literally no suspects and no obvious motive, and the victim (who was interviewed soon after his attack) would not give up who had attempted to murder him. This video will definitely make you think.

9. The Bizarre Road Trip OF A Missing Family

Another interesting True Crime episode is the story of the Tromp family. It is an interesting case because everything actually ends with everyone getting home safely. Although this may sound strange, the story itself is actually stranger. There is no murder or kidnapping (well, their kind of is), but there is plenty of confusion and speculation.

8. The Haunted Decks of the Queen Mary

The Queen Mary is an interesting ship for multiple reasons. The first one is that it used to be called the Grey Ghost (sick ass name). The second is because it's probably haunted. In the seventh episode of the first Supernatural season, the boys explore the Queen Mary and hunt for some of it's... older passengers.

I love this episode because we get Ryan's origin story. He talks about the events that led him to start believing in ghosts, much to the taunting of Shane. Do you think the toothpaste was moved by a ghost? Watch to find out.

7. The Murders That Haunt The Lizzie Borden House

This episode is interesting because it is a combination of a True Crime episode and a Supernatural episode. Officially, it is the sixth episode in the second season of Buzzfeed Unsolved: Supernatural. However, anyone who knows the Lizzie Borden case will probably consider it to be "unsolved".

The boys are able to go to the house that the murders took place in, and attempt to connect to some of the spirits there. They also explain the history of the case and open up the possibilities of other suspects and their motives.

6. The Spontaneous Human Combustion of Mary Reeser

This episode is extremely interesting because it is a case of human combustion. Am I sure that spontaneous human combustion is actually possible? Unsure. But, there's no possible other explanation. Actually, they talk about some other explanations, but they're equally as strange. Maybe it was aliens?

5. The Tragic Murder of JonBenet Ramsey

Even if you are familiar with the case of JonBenet Ramsey, this video is interesting for a number of reasons. There were suspects brought forward that I had not heard of before, even though I've watched a few documentaries about it in the past.

The boys spend time poking holes in the theory that her parents or brother had a hand in her murder, which is something that most documentaries don't do. It is also refreshing to see the boys talk about something this serious without making too many jokes, but still getting to see their personalities come through.

It is a hard case to talk about without feeling like you're tiptoeing around the heartbreaking details, but they are able to do it well.

4. The Haunted Halls of Waverly

This is the first episode of their supernatural season that I watched. I will admit, the first time I saw it, I couldn't sleep afterward. However, I am afraid of literally everything, and ghosts tend to scare me. After watching it for a second or third (or sixth) time, I've found that it's really not even that scary.

We have a cool dog (the dog dies though... rip), a ghost child who likes to smoke weed, and a lovely death tunnel! The fourth episode of the second season is full of solid quotes (it's where the infamous line, "hey ghouls... the boys are here!" came from) and plenty of freak-outs by Ryan.

3. The Mysterious Disappearance of the Sodder Children

This video holds a special place in my heart because it was actually the first Buzzfeed Unsolved video that I watched. Before this video, I had no idea the show existed, even though it already had a pretty large following. It is the 9th video in the first season of True Crime, and it details the disappearance of five children.

For longtime fans, seeing the simple backdrop and the exposed lighting will probably be a little bit of a nostalgia trip. As the show progresses, their set gets a little more interesting: fun props, a bulletin board, and a mannequin that has a mind of its own.

This episode is fantastic for a number of reasons. Mainly, I think it is a good representation of the boys' humor. It is a little morbid, as they are talking about people threatening to murder others and whatnot, but it makes hearing about a difficult topic a little bit easier.

2. The Haunting of Hannah Williams

The final episode of the fifth season is possibly the scariest. For the first time, the boys do a house-call. They visit their coworker, Hannah, who has recently moved into her new home with her husband and children. This house is full of spooky happenings, including the classic sound of footsteps in the attic, alarms being triggered, and strange nightmares being reported by the children.

The graphics they use also make the episode so startling because the images are something that is almost impossible to get out of your mind. Seriously, the picture they use for "Matilda"... good luck not having nightmares.

1.The Demonic Goatman's Bridge

This is the best episode of Buzzfeed Unsolved. Change my mind.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
