Buying Christmas Gifts, as Illustrated by The Office

It's the most wonderful time of the year. That is until you realize finals week is approaching, it's freezing outside, and you still need to buy all of your Christmas gifts. If you're feeling the pressure of Christmas shopping during this busy and stressful time of the year, you should be able to relate to these stages of gift buying as illustrated by The Office.

1.Thinking you have plenty of time to buy your gifts.

You think you have enough time to buy your gifts and lull yourself into a sense of comfort. Surely you'll remember all of the things people have asked for throughout the year. Piece of cake.

2. When the panic finally starts to kick in towards the end of November.

You look at the calendar in horror as you realize you messed up. When are you going to find the time to buy gifts before Christmas? It's time to go full panic mode.

3. Trying to decide who to buy gifts for.

Do I really know them well enough to buy a gift for them? I already have so many people on my list and I really don't want to buy any more gifts than I need to. But what if they get me a gift? If they get me a gift and I don't get them one I'm going to feel horrible. What do I do?!

4. Now that you've decided who to buy gifts for, you have to figure out what gifts to get them.

I have literally known this person for years, but I can't think of a single thing to get them. Am I the worst friend ever or just stupid? Probably both.

5. Finally breaking down and buying gift cards for some people because you're not creative.

I suck at getting gifts. I'm sorry, but at least I tried. So when they receive their gift this is how it's probably going to go down...

6. When you start buying gifts and you find out you can't use two coupons at the same time.

You guys are just setting me up to fail. Don't you understand I'm poor? Don't you understand all college students are poor?

7. Attempting to buy gifts on Black Friday.

Holy cow this is how I die. Deliver everybody's gifts at my funeral. Make my death worth something.

8. Finding out something you want to buy is out of stock.

I FINALLY CAME UP WITH A GIFT IDEA AND IT'S NOT EVEN IN STOCK? WHY??

9. Wrapping the gifts.

This is so satisfying and so annoying at the same time. I'm glad to be done, but why is this so time consuming?

10. Calculating how much you've spent on gifts this year.

I'm just going to go lay down in that corner, cry for a little bit, and reflect on my poor life choices.

Good luck out there and happy holidays!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
