Buy Video Games, Not Movie Tickets

Why it is better to buy a video game than to go see a movie.

Whenever my friends ask if I want to see a movie that isn’t Star Wars, I generally say no. Spending money on a movie ticket for a one-time viewing said movie is simply unappealing, especially when I could put that money towards a new video game. It is simply more efficient to spend money on video games than on movie tickets, and they provide a far more engaging experience.

In terms of hours bought per dollar, video games completely dominate movies. For example, the movie "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" lasted two hours and ten minutes and tickets at the time cost about eight dollars. Dividing the number of hours by the cost of admission leaves you with approximately 0.271 hours per dollar (h/d), or around 16.25 minutes per hour (m/h).

By contrast, the video game "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" contained enough content to last for at least twenty hours and cost sixty dollars. The ratio in this case is 0.333 h/d, or about 20 m/d. While this value is already greater than the movie ticket's ratio, this calculation has only considered one playthrough of the game.

Unlike movie tickets, which only provide one-time access to view the movie, once you buy a video game, you own that game. You can play it as much as you want and as many times as you want with no additional fees. This fact means that, in the long-term, video games have far more value than movie tickets.

In addition, video games also have another advantage over movies: engagement. Movies are a medium that are meant to be watched, and they can easily fail to keep their audience engaged if the story grows dull. On the other hand, video games give their audience control over the action, which invests them in the events taking place. This investment leaves the players far more engaged in the experience than if they were simply watching the story unfold.

In conclusion, it is better to spend your money on video games rather than movie tickets. Compared to watching a movie, video games provide more hours of enjoyment, a more engaging experience, and give you more value for your money.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
