Buy that Lipstick.

In my own self-discovery, I have found that doing what makes you happy, feels oh so good.

Buy that Lipstick.

When I was a junior in high school, I had the privilege of attending my first high school prom. It was a night that I had been told about for most of high school. I was supposed to feel like a princess. Something I learned: every princess needs something that makes them feel confident. I had a beautiful dress, sparkling shoes and had many ideas of how I wanted to look on that day. But the one place where I found my true confidence was in my make-up. Yes, I know it seems ridiculous to spend $20 on something that you may or may not wear again but it's bigger than that. I found something that makes me happy. I found something that made me feel beautiful and confident and strong and like I could kick some serious ass if I wanted to. My consultant at the MAC counter made it feel as if I was the most beautiful woman in the room and it worked. I bought the lipstick and another and another and another.

I have received criticism for my excessive spending on lipsticks, however, there is one thing that I always resort back it. It's my vice. We all have one, don't we? Some people like shoes. Others like food. Some people do things for the experience. But I find that spending my money on something that makes me feel beautiful is ALWAYS worth it. No matter the cost.

Looking back on the various purchases I have made, hours spent watching reviews of lipsticks on Youtube and hours waiting for the Kylie Jenner lip kits to be released: I have no regrets. I am a strong, confident woman who goes out in my bright red lipstick even when I'm just going to class. I wear my Navy blue lipstick for the 4th of July. I wear my soft pinks when I'm feeling ethereal. I wear my nudes when I'm trying to have a natural glow. I wear my reds when I am trying to look like a bad ass. I wear my lipsticks because it is me and it makes me feel more like me more than anything else.

What am I trying to say after this long rant? Do what makes you happy. Find something that makes you feel confident and most importantly:

Make yourself feel like a princess and buy that lipstick.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
