As pretty much everyone knows, animal testing has been used as a way to determine the safety of products for years before they go on the market. Even with the growing vegan and animal rights movement, many popular brands still test on animals. It's a really simple principle: if you claim to be an animal rights activist, you should shop cruelty-free. Why? Simple. If you don't care about animals being poisoned and tortured just to see if a product with hundreds of unnecessary ingredients is safe for human or household use, maybe you should volunteer for some of those trials. One of the easiest ways to avoid supporting companies that still test on animals is by avoiding any and all obvious animal products. That means no more Uggs, fur, or leather. A thirty-second search will show you how Uggs are produced, with animal skin, which is sometimes taken while the animals are still alive . If that doesn't bother you I would highly advise you give all of your pets to the Humane Society because I'd hate to see cat-skin coats. That begs the question, what makes pets different from farm animals? Honestly, not much. cows, sheep, pigs, and goats can be domesticated and loving just like dogs and cats. You wouldn't eat or wear your pet, so why do you eat and wear other people's pets?
Sadly, a very large amount of companies still tests on animals. I'll link the PDFs of what brands do and don't test on animals, but remember: you can always read up on a brand and if they're cruelty-free they tend to say it outright. To help you out I'm going to list some big name companies that do and don't test on animals.
Companies that are not cruelty-free
1. Almay (Revlon)
2. Arm & Hammer (Church & Dwight)
3. Benefit Cosmetics

Even if you don't go vegan, consider changing how you shop. You may not see it as obviously as meat, but animals suffer to make the things you love.
