Just because you're "too old" to trick or treat doesn't mean you stop wanting candy, especially around Halloween. I don't know about you but it feels like childhood trick or treating has classically conditioned me to crave candy around that time. The only problem is, candy around Halloween time can get expensive. That and it seems everyone is buying so much that the stuff you want is not there so you just end up settling for the leftover candy. And why is it even a thing that we should only eat candy on a certain day anyway?
For these reasons, I propose buying candy AFTER Halloween.
Everything's CHEAPER
Go to any grocery store the day after Halloween and all that candy that was way too expensive in the mad rush of Halloween is now at least 50% off. It's almost comical how stores take advantage of the concept of supply and demand and how easy we make it for them. But I digress.
Get the candy YOU want
Unlike the mad Halloween candy rush, when you go into the store a few days after Halloween, the store is back to its peaceful self and you are free to pursue the candy section at your leisure. Do you want those jelly beans and those popular chocolates? You go right ahead and get them.
Challenge the notion of "bad" food
I'd say this is the most salient reason for getting candy on an average day. We have this notion nowadays that candy and other junk food is "bad" and we shouldn't have "bad" food. That food may not be the healthiest but it isn't "bad." It's just food. I'm not saying to throw health to the wind and eat whatever but rather treat your body like a temple. When I think of this, I think of the little cafe area most churches have. Are all the pastries there the healthiest? No, they aren't. But they taste good and it's nice to have something that tastes good and talk to friendly people in a place that makes you feel good.
