But First, Coffee...

But First, Coffee...

I drink coffee constantly, in all tastes and sizes of cups. It started when I was like around nine; and my family dinners always ended in the adults drinking coffee. I asked to tried it and knew that it was love at first taste. My coffee addiction started to grow over the years, at first I started off with just Frappuccinos from Starbucks and now I go to a lot more local coffee shops and order americanos. (You could say I have gotten more sophisticated with my coffee.)

Since I have gotten to college, coffee has been the only thing that helps with my day. I have came to a point that if I don't drink some form of caffeine I will get a headache. Also, I don't just get coffee to "wake me up" but more because it is a treat to myself. I love the smell when you enter any coffee place and you know it feels like home. I love that it makes me happy, which actually "it increases dopamine in the brain; it makes us feel good." But mostly I love the variety of ways I can drink coffee.

My range of coffee taste has expanded ever since going to other coffee shops. I am more of a cold or iced coffee person, unless it's a cold, rainy day, then I go for a warm coffee. Since I am known to have a deep relationship with coffee, people ask me to recommend them drinks according to what they like. Coffee has many different types of tastes: sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. It is really up to your own tastebuds to know what you would like, this varies for everyone.

My first go-to coffee is an iced americano, which has more of a bitter taste. Usually I will ask for it with room, because then I can put a bit of half and half with one pack of sugar. This way, it is easy to customize to your liking. This coffee is great because it gives natural antioxidants and is an energy booster. Frankly, it reminds me of the type of coffee someone can whip up at home in the morning. If you want a step guided into black coffee, Americanos are the way to start.

Cappuccinos are considered the trendy coffee. You know the coffee you see on Instagram with decorations on top, this is the answer to your new cool pictures! They are a ratio of espresso, steamed milk and milk foam combined to make this Italian beverage.

If you want a sweeter taste, lattes are the route to go. Since they are made out of milk concentrate with an espresso shot, it will still give you the taste of coffee, but with a softer touch. Sometimes you are even given the option to add flavoring like vanilla. There is even a spice option given with chai lattes, because they give enough sweetness mixed in the spice of cinnamon to jazz it up.

There are more options than just Starbucks, have a peek into your neighboring coffee shops and enjoy the environment. If you like coffee as much as I do, don't feel like you only have to treat yourself to it once in awhile, if it makes you happy get it all the time! There are an abundance of options, just pick one. And remember, "Life is too short to drink crappy coffee and cry over people who don't care."

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
