It's OK To Have A Busy Lifestyle, But You Need To Take Care Of Yourself

I'm a person who likes to stay busy. While sitting around can be fun from time to time, I tend to become restless and feel guilty after too much of it. I feel as if I'm wasting prime opportunities to learn new things, expand/develop my skill set, and make meaningful relationships with other people.

When it comes to giving me a constant structure, school can come in handy to keep me active. However, having a lot on one's plate also has its downsides (due to things I absolutely have to do as well as things I chose to take on). This term was difficult to schedule between signing up for classes I need and making sure I had times where I could work about 20 hours a week. One of the daily problems I face is making sure I'm eating three meals a day.

Most of my classes fall during the lunch hours and some days I'm eating breakfast as early as 6:00 am and a late lunch between 3:00-4:00 pm. In order to not pass out in between, I eat small snacks like granola bars and crackers that keep me going, but its sometimes not enough and I end up with hunger headaches and a distinct lack of energy.

The way I view food, one should be able to sit down and enjoy a meal. Not just to enjoy the food you're eating, but to also take a breather where you can take a well-earned break from your responsibilities. I can't say I get this when I stop by home to eat something readily available in five to ten minutes before I have to be out the door again.

I still like being busy, but not when a basic need for survival tends to come as an afterthought. It's the reason why I appreciate my free time whenever I have it. There's nothing wrong with having a busy lifestyle, but please make sure to take care of yourself when you're not juggling paperwork and assignments.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
