I'm A Business Major And That Doesn't Make Me Boring

Just think, Elle Woods was a lawyer.

There are many different career pathways, and all of these come with some form of stereotype. For a business major the stereotype is typically that they are boring people. This is kind of hurtful as a business major. Specifically I am majoring in business management with a focus in entrepreneurship, and I think it’s pretty cool.

There are many types of business students. You have accounting students, which are probably said to be the most boring. I love accounting, and take offense to this. Accounting as everyone sees it is math, but they are wrong. Accounting is communication.

There are marketing majors which are the go getters of the group. Honestly, being in marketing requires being social, and being good at it. Marketing is not an easy career choice, and far from boring. They have to travel, and meet new people every day.

Management majors are the group that would probably be seen as those who don’t know what they are doing. To tell you the truth I don’t know what I’m doing, but that’s not because of my major, and it’s not the reason I chose my major. Management opens many doors, some of those being colorful and bright.

People majoring in finance have some smart brains. They are constantly going, and work hard to understand everything. In finance there are definitely more numbers involved than in other careers, but that doesn’t make it boring. To some a challenge like this is exciting, and again not boring.

Communication majors have to talk to people, it’s their job. They have to be outgoing, and willing to talk to anyone. They also have opportunities to further their communication skills, and these can be loads of fun. Traveling can enhance communication skills, and who says travel is boring. Meeting new people is an everyday occurrence for these majors.

To be honest some people may see these as boring, and that’s fine. Other people may not be interested in some of the typical “entertaining” and “fun” careers.

Honestly, anytime I hear that business is boring I think of El Woods. Yes I am aware this is not a true story, but it does bring to light that just because a person is in a so said boring occupation they don’t have to be boring themselves. This also goes to show that their career doesn’t have to be how everyone else sees it to be.

Business holds the key to being in any industry. Want to work in sports? They have their own accountants, managers, finance departments, and I bet they have people who have degrees in communication too. Looking to work in fashion? Again a lot of large companies have a department for each of these things. There are many opportunities given in the world of business that people don’t think of because it’s a “boring” career path.

People are different and that’s okay. Just because something is boring to one person doesn’t make it boring. A major does not define a person, the person defines the career they take out of their major.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
