Business Ethics It is defined as the branch of philosophy dedicated to studying ethical principles that emerge within an organization to benefit society as a whole. It ranges from the behavior of each team member to the organization as a whole.
Many issues involve business ethics. The most analyzed are the ethics of the company's activities and the organization's value. For this reason, companies try to develop guidelines based on ethical principles that they seek to implement in the work environment and business activities.
This business ethic is essential not only because it contributes to the improvement of society as a whole, but it also contributes to their advancement: customers will see this behavior, leading to increased trust and thus sales growth.
It should be noted that within an organization, the behavior of its leaders (managers, executives, etc.) is critical. Many of his subordinates who see these shows tend to imitate them. Thus, this behavior will help build a business ethic for better or worse.
Beginning
General ethics is divided into three main parts:
- 1.Social ethics/ethics is given by the social environment where people move. Religion, family, culture, and education significantly impact this part of ethics.
- 2.The moral consciousness, which includes sound, evil, and justice, the moral principles of humanity.
- 3.Laws, which are rules set by the state and based on the country's morals or region.
Suppose we translate this into the world of business. In that case, the principles that go with it to achieve significant social ethics are as follows:
Trust
Customers look for confidence in the products and services they require. This trust must come from a business culture that makes it possible and gives off character, honesty, and transparency.
Execution of commitments
This principle is directly related to the former. If the company does not keep its promise, customers' trust will plummet, and it won't be easy to recover. Precisely the same thing that happens to people, when companies do not keep their promises, they lose their credibility, a fundamental pillar of their trust.
Come back to the community
Businesses survive thanks to society, which is what consumes their products. For this reason, they must be grateful and give back what it gives them through community-related activities that are responsible and supportive.
Respect for people
Respect for the company must extend to all its employees, partners, and customers.
It is only a matter of time before people become unhappy without it. This dissatisfaction will be reflected in the company's image that employees and customers have. Therefore it will also be reflected in sales.
Respect for the environment
All companies must respect the world we live in and not contribute to making the world worse in any way. Sustainability is essential when building the correct business ethics.
A team of good people
Businesses are made up of people. That is why corporate employees reflect business ethics and, above all, the people who hold leadership positions. It is because leaders tend to be imitated by many of their subordinates.
It is their responsibility to set a precedent for their actions and be sufficient to act appropriately.
Something for something ("Something for something")
Cooperation must be mutual on the part of the company; that is, it must give something that corresponds to what it receives and not take advantage of it.
Honesty
As with all people, if we see a lack of honesty in business, we will lose confidence.
Professionalism
Being a pro will provide a very positive image from the outside.
Ethics must be present throughout the organization. It must be led by senior management and distributed to all company departments.
Flexibility and adaptability
Through its senior positions, the company must be open to new ideas to innovate and adapt to recent times.
Transparency and good work
The company's documents and accounts must be valid and available for consultation. In this way, an unmistakable message will be given: the agency's practices are correct, and there is no reason to hide them.
Importance for the community
Business ethics are essential for society to make positive progress. As economists, organizations have a great responsibility, like the state and families, to contribute to a fairer and more moral society.
Therefore, all companies' responsibility is to enforce the principles set out above to improve our society as a whole and benefit from all its benefits.
Real issues
A very recent ethical violation case was the German car company Volkswagen, which discovered that it had installed systems in some vehicles to make them lie when measuring the emissions they emit. It seems that these vehicles polluted between 10 and 40 times more than is legally allowed.
In this case, the company commits two severe moral mistakes: on the one hand, it has deliberately lied, which is lacking the principle of honesty and trust. On the other hand, it pollutes more and lacks respect for the environment. All of this has led to a sharp decline in customers' trust and image in this brand.
