Bumble's Support Of Girl Bosses Has Inspired Me And Should Inspire Other Women Too

Bumble's business-focused feature is a much-needed show of support for women.

I have been contemplating what I want to focus my master's thesis on, as I begin working on it at the end of this semester. The required length is a minimum of 50 pages, which is intimidating.

There are so many options for topics to write about. It's overwhelming, but I realized there are ways to combine different things I am passionate about. I do not know the specifics yet, but I do know I will be researching into the female narrative.

Female representation in media and societal expectations are still negatively impacting the lives of young women.

The things young women care about most are still being demonized, even as we become a more progressive society.

One of these things is dating.

Dating is already complicated at every level of romantic relationships. Add in other factors like cultural differences, and you've got even more challenges to dating.

Technological advances and access to social media make romantic interaction more accessible to everyone. Dating apps and websites can sometimes lead to thriving romantic, long-term relationships. Sometimes these relationships last even longer than ones began in person.

One dating app that is super successful in its marketing and getting results is Bumble.

I have not personally used Bumble, but I hear great things about it. My favorite actress, Priyanka Chopra, has spoken about her partnership with Bumble. As I listened to an interview she did on this partnership, I found a Bumble magazine in a stray pile outside of the liberal arts building on my way out of class. I can't remember what grabbed my attention and why I picked it up, but I did.

After listening to the interview, I opened the magazine. Instead of just flipping aimlessly through it, I actually read everything within.

Priyanka Chopra was onto something when she recommended Bumble not for dating, but for its involvement in developing business skills for women.

Yes, you can now learn how to network and become a working professional from Bumble. This feature is called Bumble Bizz and is specifically for making business connections.

There are people opposing Bumble's transition from a dating app to something more, but I must disagree with them. Bumble expanding its niche market is exactly what young women need.

Women are underestimated and underappreciated daily despite overperforming at their jobs.

I can absolutely relate to this, even at my current job. The wage gap is narrower, but still exists between women and men. I believe we will shatter the glass ceiling in my lifetime.

So many influential women from Fortune 500 companies and growing startups have written and spoken about the skills women need to be successful in any field. They have all preached for the capability of women to elevate the world, if only they were given the chance. All these women agree: Instead of hiding women behind the scenes and not promoting them to leadership positions, women need to be at the forefront of businesses and organizations to guarantee a better future for everyone.

I like Bumble's approach to growing their female consumers. They are releasing all kinds of marketing materials and promoting their expansion in a way that relates to young women. I think Bumble is doing something inspirational and admirable because they are demonstrating the value of women by encouraging their development in different areas of their lives.

They are supporting the girl boss phenomena and I support it.

Women have unbelievable abilities and greatness within that they fear will make things worse for them. We need to walk fearlessly into the future.

We need to apply for jobs even if we don't meet all the requirements, negotiate salaries, and overall advocate for ourselves against all odds.

Things will only get better from the moment we take control of our lives and do the leading. We were not born to be led or be lesser than anyone else. The sooner we realize our own value, the better.

Thank you, Bumble, for making me realize my own greatness and inspiring me to rally for the improvement of the female condition. We deserve more, all of us, regardless of our differences because we are unified in our womanhood.

Let's go out and do great things!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
