A Bully For President?

I don't like bullies. I never have. I didn't like them when I was in school and I don't like them when I teach school either. Although I teach students diagnosed with, "behavior disorders" I don't tolerate bullying from them either.

If my students try to bully other students I let them know that we are not on the National Geographic Channel and we don't attack weaker, younger, or sicker kids. That's not how humans ought to operate. I guess I think it's more acceptable for kids to go through a bullying phase as opposed to say an adult running for President of the United States.

As I watched the debate this last week, my blood pressure rose like a tidal wave. I was getting more and more angry. I read somewhere that Donald Trump interrupted Hillary Clinton over 70 times. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but it felt like it as I watched. It was tough. I'm not sure how the woman kept her cool. She must have practiced. She must have work-shopped situations where she was talking and then had toddlers interrupt her, talk over her, and constantly challenge the moderator.

Next it was revealed that Trump was awake at 3:00 a.m. tweeting about our former Miss Universe. When called on this, his response was that at least Americans could rest easy knowing he would be awake to heed the call. The call to insult and shame women? I think I'm good on that, thanks though.

If women are okay with this type of rhetoric from Trump, where are my fellas at? When Trump shames women, he's talking about your wives, daughters, sisters, aunties, nieces, and grandmothers. Is this okay with you? Do you want your daughters growing up hearing the President of the United States referring to her as a "dog" or a "pig?" On the other hand, do you want your sons to hear this type of language and think it's acceptable? Our President is supposed to be a role model for not only Americans, but people around the world.

I don't have all the answers. I know that Hillary Clinton can be polarizing as well. But I also know that she shouldn't have to defend her "look" on national television either. I know that as the greatest nation in the world the United States can do better than a schoolyard bully. I also know that it's up to us. Please vote. It's our voice. Use yours.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
