It's the Monday after the Egg bowl, and I'm a student at the school that failed to bring back the egg. Yes, I am pretty bummed about it. The biggest home game of the year and my very first Egg Bowl to attend resulted in a loss. What amazed me, however, was the continuous support and compassion from the student body after the game.
The final score of 38-27 and the victory to the team in the red and blue was enough to drive any State fan up the wall. Alumni shook their heads and students banged their cowbells against the wall for sure, but after the lights in Davis Wade went down and the Ole Miss victory fell silent, there was peace in knowing that we are Mississippi State students for a reason- multiple reasons, in fact. Beyond football and beyond the Egg Bowl. I chose to attend MSU, and I learn more and more every day why I will always say #hailstate.
You're never away from home. As a Momma's girl and a timid entering freshman, I was anxious to move to college. The atmosphere in Starkville on and off campus is the home away from home that I needed. There is such comfort in the small town feel of Starkville along with the hustle and bustle of the college campus. As far as I'm concerned, the only difference between Starkville and home is the zip code.
We're a team on and off the field. For the 95% of the students that don't make up the football team, we know that when we win, we win big, and when we lose...well, we accept it and move on. Saturday night in Starkville was one of the most enjoyable nights I've had because I was able to catch up with good friends that attend Ole Miss and show them around my town. We put our differences aside and celebrated each others' company instead of a victory over one another.
In my opinion, the union of two such diverse schools is an awesome thing. Football essentially is played to rule out in a win or a loss, but if you ask me what football does in the SEC, it's bring people together. Sure, State and Ole Miss have a rivalry unlike most I've seen, but we also know how to celebrate together and put the boasting to the side for a night.
I am proud to attend a university known for its continually rising academics and heart-warming hospitality along with many other attributions. When I say "for my dawgs", I mean for every single student on and off this campus, every alumni that contributes to the improvement of the university, and every child that dreams of becoming a bulldog when they grow up.
For my dawgs- I said it when we were number one in the nation and I'll say it when we take a loss to Ole Miss. I am true maroon, I am a bulldog, I am part of the greatest family known to the SEC. So, I'll leave you with this. Who really won? Hail State.
