From the beginning, Trump has stressed over and over he was going to build a wall between Mexico and America. It became a chant, something for racists to chant as if there wasn't already a border between the two countries.
It was further stressed that Mexico would somehow pay for the wall, but as the silly project began to take shape, the responsibility of it suddenly shifted on the American people.
In the past couple of weeks, Trump has threatened if citizens do not pay for the way he will personally shut down the government. The threat comes after several failed attempts to persuade different agencies of the government to fund the project, and like a petulant child, Trump continues to threaten.
The most disturbing part of the act is a GoFundMe page that sprung up a few days ago, accumulating almost 20 million dollars to build this imaginary wall.
Twenty million dollars.
Rather than spending that money on more pressing domestic issues such as the Flint Water Crisis or the destitute public education system, these people have chosen to fund a scam that hides behind the lofty idea of a racist.
It speaks greatly on what matters the most in this country and what kind of individuals live within it. When we think of who supports Trump and his ideals, we think of the "white trash" that clutches their guns to their chest in a fiery attempt to maintain their freedom. We think of the uneducated voter who drives a pick-up truck and yells racial slurs from the driver side window.
While the uneducated voter does make up a decent amount of Trump's winning votes, more than Clinton's, we cannot forget about the voters that helped Trump win.
Trump was carried through the election by those who knew better, those who chose their racist intentions over logic.
Evident in the donations on the GoFundMe page, Trump supporters aren't just poor white people following their openly racist ideals. They're comfortable white people who believe their comfortableness is threatened by the existence of people of color. They're white people who believe in isolating the country those in need, insomuch that they forget their country was founded on immigrant ideals.
Among the donations, there lies a whopping $50,000. The dedication to donate to an unverified fundraising page to keep people of color in need out of the country is astounding. The racism and white privilege it takes to donate to such a cause is clear as day, yet many still want to deny it.
Again, we see Trump fosters and invites racism in our country. He allows it to fester and grow, reverting us back to when racism was an openly accepted practice.
This wall and all its supporters are racist, believing that people of color who seek a better life are wanting to ruin the existence of whiteness.
At this point the racism is so obvious, those who deny it are revealing their racism. Trump does not want to "make America great again," he wants to make it white again. He wants to suppress any color our country has and create a reflection of himself, an old racist fighting with greed and selfishness.
It's all we can do to make it to the end of his term and mend what has gone wrong, or the country will only grow worse.
