11 Reasons Why Buffalo Has The Craziest Winter—And It's Awesome

Growing up in Buffalo has taught me a few things. And one of them is that even though Buffalo can truly be a winter wonderland, with tons of festivals and events, there's one thing our winter is known for. SNOW! Here's some reasons why our winter beats the shit out of your winter.

1. SNOW-VEMBER

In case you're a student from out of state, or even an international student, let's not forget that we got about 7 feet of snow last year.

2. Wind

Once we get closer and closer to winter, the wind picks up, and it is not friendly. Especially on Lake Erie.

3. The Roads

Driving in the snow is already a pain in the *ss. But driving in Buffalo snow is even worse. Plus, many of the people here should not have been given a driver's license.

4. The Weather Can Change Overnight

Be prepared for no snow at 10 pm, but when you wake up, there'll be a white blanket over EVERYTHING.

5. Our Plows Are The Worst

It's bad enough that we get this much snow. And to make it even worse... the plows can't keep up, leaving highways filled with snow.

6. Remember When Niagara Falls Froze Over?

Now I'm not saying that this is a regular thing...but when it's cold enough to freeze the mighty Niagara Falls, it must be pretty freakin cold.

7. You Might Be Able To Build A Fort

Again, this isn't a usual thing, but if you're lucky enough to get 7 feet of snow, might as well have some fun with it.

8. Buffalonians Get Crazy Creative In The Winter

Weather isn't the only things that gets crazy, we have awesome events like The Polar Plunge. Every dressed down and jumps into freezing Lake Erie to raise money for The Special Olympics.

9. The Snow Might Be Just A Little Too Friendly

Sometimes, not even doors can hold back the snow.

10. It Makes A Sweet Beer Fridge

If you were unfortunate enough to have your door broken, make the best of it!

11. We Have THE BEST Sledding

One thing all that snow leads to... is some kick ass sledding. At Chestnut Ridge Park there's some awesome toboggan shoots, that are a must do during the winter.

Despite what the news says, Buffalo is an awesome place to be during the winter. Unless you're trapped in your house due to the snow... then it sucks. But! Enjoy all the festivities throughout Buffalo and the rest of Western New York. And although this year hasn't seen snow yet, (for the first time in 116 YEARS!) we're all awaiting its lovely, freezing, horrible, super fun arrival with open arms.

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

(For Girls Who Are Interested In Greek Life)

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
