Traveling can add up.
Let me give you an American’s Guide of traveling through Budapest and Brussels on less than 100 dollars.
- Enjoy some cheap street food in the Hungarian markets for about 3 or four dollars. The food is big, greasy and fried, and enough to fill a line-backer.
- Take a free tour of the entire Budapest with professional tour guides. I was able to see the Parliament building, ancient cathedral, hear cool historical anecdotes, learn some Hungarian and walk through Buda and Pest. (Yes they are two different sides of town.) P.S. be kind and tip your tour guide at the end, maybe 1 or 2 dollars.
- Embrace Hungarian culture and go to a nice thermal bath and soak in pure colorful mineral water for about 11 dollars. To enhance the experience enjoy a nice glass of Hungarian hot wine upon your departure for about 2 dollars.
- Still looking for food options? Grab a delicate chicken kebab on your stroll through the city followed by Hungarian chocolates for about 5 dollars.
- Check out the famous ruin bars for free, and enjoy cheap drinks about 50 cent a pop.
- In Brussels, things aren’t as cheap, but there’s a ton to do. How about hopping on the metro without validating your ticket and taking a free bus tour of the city. (Yes, this is illegal, but hey, you are American. You only live once).
- Walk through Brussels and check out their ancient cathedrals. Their architecture is quite beautiful and culture historical.
- Brussels is in itself a museum. Walk through the city looking for random art pieces like this African statue.
- Europe has this obsession with gardening, make sure you visit a Brussels garden and admire the handy work.
- Lastly, walk up the gruesome hill to parliament square and see where the Belgium royal’s reside. It’s also a neat place to people watch.
Who said traveling can’t be cheap? Don’t believe the hype there’s plenty of things to do. If you just look for our struggle bus companions!
