Whether you're saving up or really pinching your pennies, summer is upon us!

Having fun in the summer sun can sometimes break the bank but the truth is... it doesn't have to!

So put on that sunblock, grab your friends and enjoy one of these eight inexpensive things to do this summer!

1. Go tubing

Go on down to your local discount store and grab yourself a tube! Nothing is more refreshing than hitting the pool or the lake after work. If you take care of it, this purchase could last you several summers.

2. Hit the beach

For those of you who love to feel the sand between your toes, the beach might appeal more to you than your local lake or a friends pool. So check out the beaches in your area, many actually don't require beach tags!

To avoid any on the beach purchases, pack a cooler filled with enough food and beverages to keep hydrated and happy throughout your beach day!

3. Go to Penn's Landing

Take the train into Philadelphia to avoid the cost of parking (a train ticket is typically cheaper than a parking garage or lot).

Once you reach your destination, explore the beauty of Penn's Landing. You can pack a lunch (or dinner) and enjoy some hammock time at Harbor Park or if you're looking to splurge a little (but not too much) paddle boating is an option!

If you'd like to embrace your inner child, play some games, ride the Ferris wheel, or roller-skate at Summer Fest!

4. Take a road trip

Looking to really get away? Round up a group of friends, load up your car with snacks, drinks and whatever else you may need and get on the road.

When you split the cost of gas, tolls, lodging, etc. it typically can be doable, even for those on a budget.

5. Go to Atlantic City

A night out in Atlantic City doesn't have to cost much! Sign up for the guest list at just about any night club and receive discounted or free admission! Drive together to save money on parking by splitting the cost. Putting a few dollars in the penny slots can sometimes score ya a free drink but... don't forget to tip your server (they're probably on a budget too)!

If you are drinking at a bar or club, don't forget to ask about drink specials!

Only bring the amount of money that you are willing to spend and leave that debit card at home to avoid the temptation.

Don't forget to check the email linked to any of your casino rewards cards... you never know when you can score a comped room!

Most importantly... if you are going home afterward make sure you have a designated driver!

6. Find your local brewery

Walk into town and get yourself a drink or two from your favorite brewery.

Again don't forget to ask about specials/happy hours and drink responsibly!

7. Watch the sunset

You know what they say... "if it's free, it's for me!"

Watch the sunset with your best friends and take in the true beauty of your surroundings.

8. Explore the local music scene

Local bands are always playing gigs and tickets are super cheap (usually less than $20), sometimes even free!

Just because you may not know a band doesn't mean you won't totally fall in love with their music at a show. So indulge in and enjoy your local music scene!

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone does not try to help their self before asking others. How can someone else be expected to help you if you do not first do that yourself? I'm all about helping those that need it when the time comes, however whenever someone does not even attempt to help him or herself first then that becomes a huge problem. As we all have learned, people tend to take advantage of us in one way or another. I am sure we all read this short story when we were younger and it follows that same principle:
