18 Bucket List Items For Fayetteville, Arkansas

Not a lot of college students from out of town know Fayetteville very well, myself included, so when trying to branch out and do something off campus, the ideas are pretty limited.

My friends and I have been working on an “Arkansas Bucket List,” so we can go and experience a lot of things we probably couldn’t do back home, or some things that just seem fun to do. Knowing some seniors gave me an advantage with making this list because they have already seen what great things there are to do here! Here’s the list!

1. Go to a concert at George’s.

George’s constantly has concerts for only about $30, and they have a lot of really good people perform, so try to see who’s playing and go see a concert! In high school, my friends and I would always try to buy the cheapest tickets for a random concert- even if we had never heard of the band and always had a blast.

2. Go ice skating (there’s a rink in Springdale where the hockey team plays)

It’s starting to get cold outside, so get into the Christmas spirit and go ice skating! I also greatly recommend going to see the hockey team play as well! The games are super fun.

3. Go see a movie

People really underestimate the joy of going to the theater and seeing a good movie.

4. Go to Mama Carmen's

This place is the cutest coffeeshop in the world! They have a little room filled with art, and the environment is great. It is also a great place to do homework as well.

5. Go to Eureka Springs

Eureka Springs is about an hour from campus, but is well worth the drive. I strongly recommend doing this while the leaves are changing because it makes the drive even more beautiful. You can even try to rent a room for the night and enjoy the night atmosphere walking through the town. There is also an awesome lookout site driving into town that you must stop for, in addition to a cool place to zip-line.

6. Go to Crystal Bridges

I’m sure you’ve heard of Crystal Bridges. I’ve only been outside, but it looks really neat and beautiful.

7. Go to Bentonville Square

This is where Walmart was founded:) and it also has a great ice cream place inside the Walmart museum. It is a really cute area to spend the day in.

8. Find a nice field or park and have a picnic (this can be done anywhere, even on campus)

Wilson Park is a good place to go if you don’t want to stay on campus. You may want to wait until it gets warm out again for this.

9. Go hiking

King’s River is a cool place to go because there’s a waterfall, but there are so many other places that are equally beautiful for a nice day of hiking.

10. Go canoeing or kayaking

What better way to enjoy the great outdoors than to go canoeing or kayaking?

11. Hot Springs National Park

This is about three hours or so from campus, but National Parks are cool! This could also be a fun weekend trip to make sure the drive is worth it.

12. Gentry Zoo

Gentry Zoo is super cool because you can pet the animals. One of my friends got to play with a baby lion. Enough said.

13. Artist Point Sunrise

Artist Point is a very famous spot to watch the sunrise.

14. Drive-in Movie Theater

This theater is closed in the winter, but look for when it opens back up because drive-in movies are the best.

15. Farmer’s Market

The farmer’s market is so cute! There are gorgeous flowers everywhere and very freshly grown foods to buy! There are also some cute thrift stores nearby, which are pretty fun.

16. Christmas Lights

Around Christmas, everyone has to go look at Christmas lights! When the season gets closer, try to find the best-decorated neighborhood, get some hot chocolate, and cruise around listening to some Christmas music!

17. Bonfire (Wedington)

My friend just told me that there is a place to go have a bonfire, possibly in Wedington?

18. Mount Sequoyah

Everyone has heard of this place in Fayetteville. It’s really cool to drive to at night and look over the whole city.

This list is still in progress, but I thought this could help until a new and improved list comes out! These are just a few ways to add a little adventure to your college experience. Since I am not a native, I am sure I left a couple of good spots out, but these are definitely good and fun things to do.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
