A Bucket List Before 2017

A list of ways to spice up the remainder of 2016

A Bucket List Before 2017
Stranger in this Town

We’ve all been there: it’s almost January, and you think back over your year. Did you go on that road trip you have been thinking about? Did you work up to saying hi to that special someone? Sometimes, an entire 365 days can go by without us doing something just for the heck of it, whether it is having an ice cream contest with a best friend, or just staying up watching movies until 5 AM because you just finished exams. So, when are you feeling like you want something to remember doing in 2016, read this list of activities to put on your end of the year bucket list:

1. Have a movie marathon (and don’t be worrying the entire time that you will fall behind on homework because of it!)

Sometimes it is good to pick out some good comedies or romance flicks, pop some popcorn, and spend a night just relaxing with friends or family.

2. Go on a road trip (extra perks if isn’t just within one state!)

Seeing the world outside of where you live is something we do not get to experience very often, so taking a long drive to a beach or a different state would be an eye-opening experience, and can allow you to open your mind to other places in the world.

3. Pull an all-nighter (because why not?)

Although many people may not be up to this, staying up all night gives you a new viewpoint of the nighttime and how peaceful it really is! (There are other ways to experience peacefulness, but an all-nighter can be a fun experience).

4. Go apple picking!

This is also a way to experience the outdoors, and you get fresh picked fruit out of it!

5. Have a spa day (which includes painting nails, face masks, the whole nine yards)

A spa day is one of the most relaxing ideas I could ever think of, so planning a day to pamper yourself will make you more at ease and ready to take on the world.

6. Go on a long walk!

Besides the added exercise, taking a walk outside will allow you to converse with those closest to you, experience nature, and even take photos of nature to keep for years to come.

7. Read a book that is not for school (plus points if there is a hammock involved in this situation)

It’s time to pull out the Harry Potter books! The concept of reading a book just for fun is one that you do not often think about, but it can be one of the most relaxing experiences you can have.

8. Eat dessert (first!) at a mealtime

There are not many more feelings of liberation than eating a cupcake while everyone around you is eating vegetables or something you would call “healthy”. Although I would not recommend this task more than once, it is very fun to see other’s reactions to your indulgences :)

9. Do the polar plunge the morning before an exam (it’ll wake you up just as much as your daily cup of coffee!)

This may be a difficult task to complete, but the feeling of ice-cold water in the morning will be one that wakes you up more than almost anything.

10. Be content about where you are in your life!

It happens too often where we get caught up in what is going in our own lives, and we forgot to appreciate the little things, such as the cool breeze blowing outside or the leaves changing as fall becomes more apparent.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
