If you have been paying attention to the baseball world recently, you probably have heard of the name "Bryce Harper" in recent news. Bryce Harper was an outfielder for the Washington Nationals, and is the reigning Home Run Derby champion. But, he is now a free agent. Free agent basically means a bunch of teams offer players money and a spot on their team for a certain amount of years, and the player gets to choose which team's offer he likes most.
The team that has shown interest in Harper include, but are not limited to, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Washington Nationals, the San Fransisco Giants, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Though, probably a majority of the 30 major league baseball teams are interested in signing him just without being so vocal about it. But, he has gotten so many offers from so many amazing teams, so it does not make sense as to why he is waiting so long to make a decision.
Well, baseball fans have been waiting for his decision since the season ended, and it is now spring training time, and Harper, as of February 20, 2019, at 11:17 AM, has yet to sign with a team. Now, to me, this has been dragging out for what seems like forever, even though it has only been a couple of months. Months of hearing rumors about where he is going, and what team offered him a historical contract. This stretch of Harper not being affiliated with any major league team has been exhausting. I am sick of his waiting around just to make the situation a big ordeal.
Up until February 19, 2019, Harper had a free agent buddy, Manny Machado. Machado just signed a ten-year contract for $300 million with the San Diego Padres, something nobody saw coming. So, could Harper follow in Machado's steps and sign with an underdog team? My guess is that he will not unless it is a contract similar to Machado's. Other than that, the goal of any baseball player is to win the World Series one day, and Harper will most likely sign his contract with a team that is close to doing so.
This is how he feels when he sees people complaining about how he is taking too long.
